I struggle with this question. And this comes from a HUGE fan of the show, at least during the Mulder/Scully years.
For me, as much as I'd love to see these two back in action, part of me remembers that the writing for the last several (at least three) years of the show wasn't really good, with the mythology ending up a confusing, 'make it up as we go" mess, characters folded into the show awkwardly and unnecessarily, and a general feeling of fatigue.
Plus, I'm beginning to wonder if the show wasn't really "of its time", that is, the 90's. We've had so many imitators since then, maybe the novelty of it has worn.
And since most of the big mysteries about the show (what happened to Mulder's sister?, what is the conspiracy, will M and S get together?) are solved, is it too late to construct any interesting new ones?
Maaybe, if they completely ignored the confusing and frustrating old mythology and did a cracking good stand alone that somehow dealt with modern day concerns, the characters and their appeal would be enough to put it over the top. That'd be my advice, anyway.
Oh, and resurrect the Lone Gunmen!!
