To me this is just a variant on the Ginger/Mary Ann debate. Laverne is the girl we would all like to go out with but Shirly is the one we would bring home to Mom!!

Exactly! Laverne is someone who is fun to play pool with or go bowling with, have a beer with, etc. But Shirley is the stable, motherly one. All in all, I'd say Shirley would probably make the better wife.
