As someone who hardly watches Futurama, I have an answer for this
Because Futurama hasn't gotten up to the levels of said animation (South Park, Simpsons, and Family Guy). Think about it for a second, Futurama, while having a following is only referenced by the casual person once in a blue moon and it's always the same references...From Bender sating "Bite My Shiny Metal Ass" to Fry's "Shut Up And Take My Money" to Bender dancing to "Conga" to Fry drinking 100 Cups of Coffee...which brings me to my next point, besides a few handfull of eps, nobody I know at least knows enough or cares about the rest of the crew except maybe for Leela (for being Fry's love interest) and maybe Zoidberg (for being goofy).
All 3 Shows in Family Guy, Simpsons, and South Park peaked in our culture in their early seasons, to the point where not only do we reference most of the shows on a daily basis but to the point where the casual fan can point out their favorite eps whether they are notorious or not. As for Futurama, most people besides the hardcore fanbase know nothing about the show besides the few eps that are talked about. (Random Story, about 2 years back in Austin I bumped into someone who said their fav ep was Jurassic Bark....I called them out on it, and to put it bluntly they remember it was about Fry's Dog, but don't remember any details about what made it great)
So to sum up what has literally turned into a rant that I didn't know I had in me...Futurama, with the exception of the fanbase, is just not as popular as most of us give it credit for.
Because it's never gotten as horrible as FAMILY GUY - ever. FG will find something and annoy you with it, and know it's annoying you, and still keep going. Not even a premise, but just a running gag or an episode-long reference. Or politics.
And it got cancelled when it was starting to get a bit stale like THE SIMPSONS first did 15 years ago.
FUTURAMA's worst crime was that it was dull sometimes. And also, occassionally, the writers would stick a lot of douchey science/nerd stuff in there that flew over your heads but not theirs.
But its quality has always been pretty solid, and it has always made me laugh at least a little, and a lot for much of its run.
A friend and I were talking about it recently and, while we both love the show, we're not heartbroken to see it go. A bit sad, but it got a good run overall.
Futurama is very hit and miss. It is very funny in parts, but very dull in others.
Its biggest problem is that it tends to be very sappy and even a complete downer in a lot of episodes.
The characters are ok, but seem to get dull, just as they get interesting. The support cast is good though.
Fry, who is the main character, isn't very likable. He is the typical bumbling looser, but he seems to deserve a lot of the crap he ends up with. So its hard to get behind him.
I think Leela is an idiot really, she has had it shown to her that Fry is perfect for her, but still refuses to date him. I know its meant to be a running gag, but it just makes her look dumb.
Bender is funny, but you would have to think, they would just scrap him as he commits a lot of crimes.
I wont watch the Jurrasic Bark episode, because it's very sad, and I watch these types of shows for a laugh.

It never needed to go on for seven seasons. It's a vaguely plot-themed show, with some sort of arc going across the seasons. But because of the theme of having Fry gain stuff, lose stuff, and everything going back to normal, there's really nothing compelling that's happened over the course of the show. The Fry/Leela stuff is probably the best example--why should anyone care when it never goes anywhere?

I have the exact same complaint with Ace Attorney.
Anyway, with Futurama, the issue is that it isn't a perfect show. There are a lot of bad elements, especially when they do episodes like "Yo, Leela! Leela!" and "The Duh-Vinci Code" that are simply based off of recent events (or in the case of the latter, out of relevancy). I also find the usage of "time paradoxes" in the storylines to be really annoying (such as "Roswell That Ends Well" and "Indecision 3012"... one of the worst episodes ever).
The thing is that it's not mainstream, and people don't quote the lines endlessly. Everybody knows just about everything from "The Simpsons" (yesterday, I was humming Bart's "Polly Wolly Crappy" from "The Otto Show") and, because "Family Guy" is a cutaway-heavy show, people will mention the various free gags (though... good luck seeing if they know the episodes they came from).
I do have one more complaint about Futurama, and that was the early days, when they relied heavily on CGI, and it resulted in one of the most annoying shots from "Raging Bender", where you see a 3D Bender getting slugged. I know CGI is easier than drawing, but couldn't they have used the 3D rendering as reference and just drawn it?
