View Full Version : Joan versus Shirley: What Would Shirley Partridge Do?
LittleRickyII 08-01-2013, 05:23 PM And I'm still trying to imagine this scene with "Jean"! What those Partridge kids never knew! :o

What I don't get is the naming of names. Why not say another star couple? Shirley need the money bad. That goon she is married to is sucking her dry.

I agree. But then again, Joan Collins doesn't seem like the kind of person who would necessarily be embarrassed by such a thing, assuming there's any truth to it. And she says there's not. But I can't imagine Shirley Jones just making that up. But she would have been wise to have called her up beforehand and asked if she recalled the incident and if she would mind her writing about it. When Desi Arnaz wrote his autobiography in 1976, he had a lot of very personal stuff in their about his relationship (and marriage) with Lucille Ball. But he called her up and discussed it all with her and she gave him to the green light to include publish it.

Years ago she was supposed to be divorcing him, but something compelled her to stay with him. It must be his wonderful charm. :) As for her money, the Celebrity Net Worth website has her net worth estimated at 25 million. I don't know how they come up with their information or if it's accurate, but if it is, it seems she's in pretty decent shape. And that's probably a good reason for Marty to want to stick with her.
Marty said he was going to expose her and her children if she divorced him. People are sometimes worth a certain amount on paper but with taxes and liquidation it is not that much money. Shirley's house is on the market now. There was a story recently about someone going to visit Shirley and she had animal gates all set up. They were not for animals. She said Marty was a hoarder and she wanted to prevent junk from spilling over into the other rooms. I really think Shirley has lost all sense of shame.

I don't either. It always rubs me wrong when someone makes a confession and some of the people involved are dead and can't defend themselves.

That is her NET worth, which means if she were to pay off all debts and liquidate her assets, she'd have $25 million. Well, okay, minus taxes. But as long as she's holding onto it, that's what she's worth. Maybe most of it is tied up in investments and she's not actually living off of most of it, which would make her cash flow a bit tighter. But with that much wealth, if she's managing her money in a smart way, she should be living very nicely. And so should Marty (thank you, Shirley).

And this is a perfect time to sell. Is her house in Southern California? Real estate values are way up on So. Cal right now.

Okay, now that's plain weird and kind of creepy.
Since this story broke the publishers took out the story about Joan on all further additions of the book. This story was initially used to sell the book. I think Joan should sue. I can't believe Shirley has such poor judgement. She is being ripped to shreds online. I know that a lot of us read other books. Why are some defending this piece of crap?
I don't believe that Shirley is still at this. I kind of agree with one commenter on Amazon that Shirley seems like she is emotionally disturbed.Shirley used Joan to sell a book and her name was in articles.

I pretty much don't know how desperate Shirley is but is she going on about this junk. Now I think she needs to go away and big time,

I'm beginning to wonder about that myself. I haven't read the book but have been reading comments people are making about it. Besides this alleged Joan Collins swinging fetish, she apparently shares information on the sizes of her sons' and husbands' private parts, and about how she likes to pleasure herself. Why? After a long career in which she's been highly respected by the public and by her peers, why would she threaten her own image by writing such stuff? It just doesn't add up.
Retro4Life 08-04-2013, 12:01 PM I guess I would like to read the book before drawing any conclusions regarding Mrs. Jones' mental state or lack thereof, and even then, I don't imagine I'm really that qualified to do so.

Well said. Here she is in her own words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqVqbj_VISU
She doesn't come across as emotionally disturbed in any way, but I still don't get what would compel her to write some of this stuff. Maybe she felt pressure from the publisher because, sadly, it's this salacious stuff that sells books.
Marty Ingels is the one who is always put to make a quick buck. People are buying this and thinking they are getting behind the scenes to the Partridge Family or her view of movie directors. Other stars fight for quality books. Shirley got pushed into putting out 'Danny Bonaduce' stuff for a quick buck. By the way, Shirley used to reprimand Danny for doing things and damaging the family. Now she doesn't care. Go to the comments on Amazon for a quick laugh.
Look who is agreeing with me about Shirley's book. David Cassidy!
JN: Have you read the Shirley Jones book that is coming out?
DC: No, and I have no idea about it. The only thing I know is someone from the company that was sold the bill of goods said they needed to put some spicy, controversial, staggering gossip kind of crap in there because she is not that kind of a person but I am sure her husband had something to do with that

It's like when Reagan met with Gorbachev! ;)

True in a way, but then sometimes a person cannot say something negative about a person who is alive .
Christina Crawford could not.
I guess that's what it boils down to.

So, does that mean Shirley could possibly write ANOTHER revised bio in which she puts in more details re how badly exploitive her now-deceased husband Marty was to her and her offspring? Somehow that wouldn't surprise me.

Christian Crawford DID speak negatively of her mother YEARS before her mother's death: http://www.joancrawfordbest.com/magredbook.htm
PracTz 01-14-2016, 05:51 PM Little Ricky,
After all the 'Joan-said/Christina said' back and forth re Christina's leaving her original boarding school, NO WONDER the headmasters refused to make ANY comment. I imagine they'd wished they'd NEVER met either of them when the dust settled and preferred to never attempt to lift the lid on that explosive stew pot again.
To bring it back to Shirley and "PF", I wonder if the show would have suffered had they sent Chris and Tracy to a boarding school after the first season instead of just keeping them wallpaper who occasionally piped up 'Who?!' (RIP, Miss Crough notwithstanding).

Well some cases involve a person being afraid to speak up.
It seems that in Christina Crawford's case, she had already grown up and was no longer being "taken care of" by her "mother" so she did not have to fear being hit with a wire coat-hanger if she angered her mom by saying something negative about her.
