I have the first 2 seasons on DVD. I was going to put seasons 3-6 on my Amazon wish list but I guess they haven't been made. Why not, is it because Fame went to first-run syndication?

I didn't care too much for the final season, but I would probably still get it if released. Music clearances may be one reason for no releases. Starting with season 3, they featured more covers of current popular music and less original music on the series. A season 3 episode featured Doris singing Lionel Richie's "Running with the Night" and a season 4 ep featured Ms. Grant dancing to Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon in the Sky" for instance. I was going to put seasons 3-6 on my Amazon wish list but I guess they haven't been made. Why not, is it because Fame went to first-run syndication? Part of it is music clearances on some songs (this also explains why one of the 39 NBC episodes didn't make it onto the initial 2005 DVD box set), but perhaps another part of this problem was that unlike the 39 episodes making up the first two seasons that aired on NBC, the episodes spanning the four syndicated seasons were initially processed on film but edited on videotape, and this is why many other shows that were shot and/or edited on tape don't always lend themselves well to DVD or Blu-Ray. ~Ben |
