The life of Riley was adapted from the Radio version. The TV versions started in 1949 starring Jackie Gleason. William Bendix starred in the Radio Version. In 1950, Jackie Gleason gained enough notoriety that they moved him to Cavalcade of Stars because of the unique talents that Gleason had. The reason it went off the air for a bit was the fact that the Producer and the
Sponsor couldn't arrive at an agreement.
Jackie Gleason and Rosemary Decamp: from October 4, 1949 to March 28, 1950.
William Bendix and Marjorie Reynolds: January 2, 1953 – May 23, 1958
It didn't go off the air in 1950 because it was a failure but because of the "Creative Differences" between the show and the sponsor.
The original 1949 to 1950 may have been what was to be adapted to the Honeymooners.
While some were lost forever due to not being preserved, many are still around and in Public Domain. I don't know if they all are PD but the ones at this link are verified as Public Domain. The Life of Riley (http://www.droopyvids.com/category.php?cat=thelifeofriley)
