Whitley, Whitley, Whitley. We’d be hard-pressed to find someone who didn’t love to loathe Jasmine Guy’s memorable Whitley Gilbert on A Different World. The show had a tremendous impact on an entire generation of viewers, particularly young African-American men and women, so it almost seemed absolutely certain Guy would become a star. But while she also appeared in the films School Daze and Harlem Nights, along with a slew of television appearances, she was never able to really breakthrough into mainstream, A-list status. We’re not sure why, but we’re confident that was definitely Hollywood’s loss. - See more at: http://madamenoire.com/285747/what-happened-celebrities-who-should-have-had-bigger-careers/3/#sthash.qXy4vLmP.dpuf

I didn't know she has lupus either. She has aged badly. She used to be really cute. I watched her last week in Harlem Nights movie.

Didn't Jasmine go through a very ugly divorce, where ex-husband took her to the cleaners and left her with nothing? She therefore, wasted a lot of good years that could have been spent revitalizing her career on getting rid him.

There's also some innuendo that she had a rather nasty substance abuse problem as evidence by her bizarre behavior (http://nypost.com/2003/10/25/bizarre-jasmine-shrinks-from-violet/) (slurred speech, slow cue-pick-ups, forgetting her lines, calling one character by the wrong name) from the Broadway show The Violet Hour.

Perhaps, Jasmine's career outside of ADW because of the amount of surging black talent in the early '90s (Halle Berry, Robin Givens, Jada Pinkett, Teresa Randall, Elise Neal, Regina King, Vivica A. Fox, Tyra Ferrell, Michael Michele, Lela Rochon, Nia Long, Vanessa Williams and others). The roles at the end of the day, were simply not there for her it was really cut throat if you look at the beauty and talent.
