ABC Family Cancels "Bunheads" after One Season
July 22, 2013
by Kate Stanhope
There will be no encore performance for "Bunheads".
The ABC Family drama, from "Gilmore Girls" creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, has been axed after one season.
"Bunheads is a wonderful series that we are very proud to have aired," the network said in a statement.
"The series had amazing storytelling, the most talented cast and a passionate and loyal fan base. Recognizing all of this, we took extra time to try and find ways to bring the series back for another season, but in the end it simply wasn't possible. We wish the cast and crew the best in their future endeavors."
Starring Tony winner Sutton Foster and "Gilmore Girls" alum Kelly Bishop, "Bunheads" centered on a former Vegas showgirl who moves to a small California town and starts teaching dance to a group of teens following the sudden death of her new husband.
Just like "Gilmore Girls" before it, "Bunheads" was beloved for its smart (and fast!) dialogue and the performances by the show's core ensemble.
The show averaged 1.25 million viewers and a 0.5 rating in the adults ages 18-49 demographic.
"Bunheads" joins another ABC Family show, "The Lying Game", which was canceled last week after two seasons.
