I have to ask all of you about this. Call me grouchy if you must, but don't you think that this piling up post/reply numbers just for the sake of it is cluttering the board. I know some of you get a thrill out of rushing to the next big goal number but it seems that stimulating and interesting conversations are loosing out to and being buried by the not so engrossing chatter.

I agree. Posts such as "oooh - look at me, I've got 1000 posts" are pretty pointless. What's even more pointless is when tonnes of other folk respond with messages of congratulations. I see this board as a place for interesting polls and discussions. It's not a contest to see who can have the biggest number under their avatar!

I brought this subject up so that it could be discussed and reasoned over, not to put any of you on the defense. I'm not referring to specific posts such as 'bermuda' or 'Nessie'. The 'number tally' posts are part of the issue, but how the tallies are aquired is the crux of the issue because nearly all of the subject posts on the board become littered with chatter aimed at building those tallies rather than to adding something to the conversation. Some tally building has been a part of the boards for as long as I've been here but now it seems to be all the rage. If that's what you enjoy and what you want, then so be it. It is one of the reasons why I left once before for quite a spell. As much as I enjoy the company provided by you all at the board, the distracting prattle overwhelms the enjoyment for me. I know that you all are capable of engaging conversations because we've had, and I've taken part in, lots of them.

I agree with Kit and Mossopp. I especially hate it when people make a whole new thead to congratulate themselves on their number of posts. I hate it even more when people do this and then make the subject line something vague, so I open it up not knowing it's just a "400!" post. Of course I hate vague subject lines anyway. That's my 2.5 cents on the issue.

Please don't assume that someone needs to "chill" just because your definition of fun differs from theirs. We all come to the board to have fun. If you were playing a volleyball game and there happend to be 18 people on the court all playing at once, that would be hard to ignore, don't you think? To pretend that all that one has to do in order to have fun is to "chill" and ignore replies in the subject posts is baloney.

Ok I know I already sort of said this, but I want to elaborate....

What bothers me most is when people's subject lines are either vague or not related to the content of the post.

The reason this bothers me is because my memory sucks, and from day to day I forget what all the little "yay", "here it is" "insert vague statement here" posts are about, so I reopen them every day to see what they are. It seems like a waste of my time. It's getting to the point where sometimes I don't even read posts that have vague subjects.

All I asked when I started this post is for you all to discuss and reason out this abundant post/reply thing. It would be nice if you would pay attention to what's being said instead of just blowing everyone off who isn't in your corner. It isn't a matter of not posting under the topics because the tally building replies are inside of every topic. The topics that are about tally numbers are not - as Bootsy has told you - always clearly labeled as such, consequently we open the topic, sometimes more than once, expecting to find something to read. I didn't know if I'd get cooperation or understanding when I brought this up, but I expected to be dealt with respectfully. You basically saying, like it or lump it, is not only disrespectful and uncooperative but it's childish.

Yeah, I totally agree with that. I'm sometimes stretched for time when I come on here (and my computer's pretty slow) so I get really frustrated when I wait for ages for my computer to load the page, only to find out that it's someone raving about their post total.

I'm just going to vent my similiar feelings on the subject. Well, in my most humble opinion, there are way too many repetitious topics cluttering this board. Believe me, I've been here nearly a year and a half, so I've seen every topic here to the Fuji Islands.
So I understand that some members wanting a more "stimulating and interesting" experiences here at Chit Chat.

Ok... so I'm supposed to make a connection between too many players on a volleyball court and you thinking that there aren't enough "stimulating and interesting" posts on this board? I guess you just made that up for fun when it has nothing to do with the subject since you are incapible of explaining yourself.
I wish I had more to reply to, but you haven't made any arguments that prove what I said isn't correct. All you have done is make up some insulting chatter to make yourself look good.

MJFFan: "Ommmm" is a meditation chant that has been often joked about for many years, which is what I was doing here with you, joking. Or in your words, I was having a little fun with you.

In volleyball, the object of the game is to set and toss back. It takes strategy, teamwork and skill. In beach volleyball there are two players on a team. In court volleyball - highschool, college and so forth - I believe that their are six players on a team. So if one wanted to play a game of volleyball and there were nine players on each team, much of the strategy and skill would be lost to bumping and random hits and probably a lot of giggling. Now, I hope that gets across for you the simily I was trying to make. It seemed pretty obvious to me. If you like to play that way, and that is fun for you, then fine. But if I happen to suggest, politely, though assertively, that we compromise some and take into consideration that some of us on the board are finding it difficult to wade through the chatter you'd do well to be at least understanding of the request instead of just saying I need to "chill". Even if you don't agree with it or go along with the request. Notice Nancy rulz. Why is it that we are in need of tree surgery just for pointing this out and making a simple request? Why is it that someone with another take is a damned fool trouble maker? I can understand that some of you like to do your megapost game. I was a kid once too. And Karli, by the way, is actually good at it. By that I mean, even though she is building a tally she makes most of her comments funny and interesting. Some of the mega post people, well, maybe they need practice. And I appreciate Karli's attitude about this whole discussion, and her trying to be friendly. She suceeded and personally, I think that I did too. If you think not, look to yourself, maybe you need to "chill".

In response to your answer. It seems to me that most topics have titles that let you know. "Yay! 100 Posts!" "What TV shows can you NOT live without????"

I completely agree with you. I was away from the boards for less than a week and there is no way to catch up on all the posts. There are three pages of new posts! If the subjects were more specific I wouldn't have to waste my time opening a lot of boring posts. And I have a terrible memory too. Especially with the posts that start with "do you...." or something similar. I can never remember what the question is so I keep opening those even when they are subjects I don't care about.

It is too bad some of the threads get buried so quickly. I'm glad this is an active board but sometimes it gets annoying to have topics repeated not just once but numerous times. I don't know how that can be helped though. I really like these boards so it's not too big a deal, just bothersome sometimes.
