I thought that the last episode was probably one of the best episodes of the entire series! It was a great ending to a great show.

I think the final episode was good. It had the right amount of sentiment.
I think the show was losing its way a bit, and the finale pulled things together. Things were a bit rushed, but i think that's because they new they were being cancelled and they had to wrap things up for good at the end of the season.

I thought the ending narration by the adult Kevin was great. We find out some new stuff such as Jack's death a couple years later, Norma's success in her company, Wayne taking over the furniture business, and Winnie coming back home from art school ~8 yrs later with Kevin and his son waiting for her at the airport.

Yes, I do!

First of all, Kevin lost his car while gambling. The writers should have had him beat them all and win enough money to buy the resort. Plus, I hated the scene with Kevin and Winnie in the barn (mostly for some questions the series left unanswered).

It left a bad taste in my mouth as a bad ending to a series which IMHO should have gone on at least another ten seasons.

I loved the season finale up until the last couple of scenes. *Sigh* I so wanted Kevin and Winnie to end up together. I don't know...maybe the writers saw it as too much of a storybook ending.:( :(

yeah...I feel a little ripped off that we never even got to "meet"the girl Kevin ended up marrying. I agree as unlikely as it is....I would have liked him to end up with Winnie.(brush away tear)I'm a grown up now and whenever I watch the show I get a feeling in my stomach.....Winnie and Kevin have a love that was written in the stars, man!

Hi all,
Through the years, I have heard complaints from people about the final episodes of everything from "The Wonder Years" to "Cheers" and even "M*A*S*H". Strangely, though, it's always from someone who couldn't have written a better finale if their life depended on it.

I think "The Wonder Years" ended perfectly, at just the right time, in just the right way. The closing narrative is one of the most beautiful things ever written by anyone about the subject of growing up.

And, thank God Kevin didn't end up married to Wacko Winnie! She punished him *more* than enough throughout junior high and high school. How often is the person someone marries somebody they knew when they were a kid, anyway? Not very.

Personally, I think The Wonder Years should have went on for just one more season. They could have done the final episode when Kevin and Winnie graduate High School.

I liked the first 3-4 years of TWY the best. He was sooooo cute and adorable!!! But, then he got older, and he met all these other friends in H.S. and his voice changed, and he had those outbursts. I liked all the episodes, but when he was in Junior High, they were the best! When his algebra teacher died!:( , and all the episodes with Winnie and Becky Slater...the best! Ooohh..and who can forget the Glee Club episode?!?! Hehe. I, personally, didnt like the last 2 episodes. The only part I liked, was the narration of the future...it was sad, but it was reality. I think that show is the only show that is actually REAL--all those things could have happened in our lives. I doubt we live lives like Brady's and Tanners. Still good shows though! lol

The writers did not know for sure about the end of the series so they shot the parade scene without a voice over. Had the network renewed Wonder Years, the voice over would have led to another season.
With that considered, it would be safe to assume that had the writers known from the beginning, their "final episode" may have been different, i.e., they would not have had to tie up loose ends in thirty seconds.
However, to their credit, the ending voice over about growing up was classic television; as good an ending as I've ever seen.
I agree with an earlier post. The Wonder Years should have
completed Kevin's journey to his high school graduation. That point would have been a logical place to stop.

YES YES YES I thought it sucked once again winnie went loopy for no reason the closing narration was wonderful but thats all i mean how can you finish six seasons in thirty seconds and finishing the program before the finished high school didnt make sense. lets hope that once that freak winnie cooper was out of his life that kevin found happiness in madelines arms

as to the person who said we could not write a better ending hes right but then again we are not professional writers they are (or at least suppost to be)

Hi again, all,

Those who can't do, criticize.

Sometimes, they even supervise.

Daniel Stern did a great job of narrating the show over the years. I remember after seeing it when it originally aired, I was upset at the way it ended. But looking back, I think it was one great ending to one great show. The voiceover on the parade scene was classic. It seemed stlyish even though it was originally intended to carry over to another season...

I loved the finale, but yet didn't like it.

I thought the series was rushed because ABC threatened cancellation, and they were forced to tie up all loose ends very abruptly.

I think the show had one more season left, and that would have been the greatest ending ever.

Not to criticize, but what is wrong with a storybook ending? It was possible for Kevin and Winnie to end up marrying each other!!!

I thought it was a great ending. It was sad, but it was supposed to remind us of bittersweet teenage years and growing up. No false hopes about marriage or anything.

I personally didn't care for the 30 sec voiceover at the very end either. It didn't make sense for Kevin to pick up his first love Winnie at the airport with his wife and child, I would think the wife would be a little insecure about that. And imo, it seemed unrealistic cause the way Kevin narrated it, everything seemed so peachy keen.

I think a better ending for Kevin and Winnie would have been they kept in touch while she was in Europe (or wherever she was at) and they both stayed SINGLE and then he would pick her up from the airport leaving it at that, letting us wonder whether they got together or just stayed good friends.

I agree. That part about bringing his wife and child to meet Winnie at the airport was odd. Also Kevin said he and Winnie wrote to each other weekly. And his wife was fine with this? Not a very good way to wrap up this wonderful series.
