View Full Version : I got to meet Henry Winkler today
antman67 07-14-2013, 07:49 AM :) I got to meet Henry Winkler "FONZIE" at the Chatterbox in NJ. He's a super nice guy. He made time for every fan & would take a break from signing autographs/photos to walk through the huge line and acknowledge everyone - shaking hands, & introducing himself. I got to shake his hand and talk to him for a minute or so. The line was about 3 hours. If I had more time, I would have waited on the line and gotten a photo or autograph. I took these cell phone pics (SEE ATTACHED) as he walked around and shook everyone's hands. I watched him sign hub caps, guitars, baseballs, whatever you wanted. I'm not in any of the photos since I took the pix. Enjoy anyways.

It was at the Hollywood Collector's show in Burbank a couple of years ago. I got to meet my favorite TV mom of all time and was so excited and she didn't acknowledge my presence after talking to her, and her assistant looked at me like I was crazy. I felt embarrassed and humiliated. It was June Lockhart the Lost In Space/ Lassie Mom. I told her what I thought was a cute story and didn't even get a reaction.

That's my fear of meeting a celebrity. If I have a negative experience with them, I think that would affect the way I feel about them and hurt reruns of the show they're in for me.
For the record, I didn't officially meet June Lockhart but I was at a convention back in 2000 and she was there but her line was too long to wait in. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of hers anyways. I was there for Yvonne Craig (Batgirl), whom I did meet and she was very nice to me. I also talked to Timmy from Lassie. He was nice and even signed his autograph for free (which no one else there did). Angela Cartwright was also there but unfortunately, at the time, I didn't make the connection that she was on "Make Room for Daddy." So I didn't say anything to her. I hate myself for that, lol, because I loved her on that show.
daynet 07-16-2013, 05:20 PM I am really glad to hear that Henry Winkler is such a nice guy.

Thanks. One thing I forgot to mention. Not sure if I caught it on video. Henry puts his arm around anyone, and I saw him hugging and kissing little kids, older women and is really happy anyone wants to see him and cares. He speaks very softly and is just simply amazing. Like you said, you never know what some of these actor might be like in real life? He was incredible. He even made sure you had a good photo and had no problem taking more if you wanted.
Here's the article from the local paper too.

I had NO IDEA he does the comic cons too?
Very cool, it looks like everyone had a great time.

OH Nuts! 07-27-2013, 12:20 AM Glad to hear you had a nice time and that Henry was a nice guy. I've been lucky; the stars I've met have been SUPER SUPER nice (Danny Thomas, Ann Meara, Whoopi Goldberg)
lucy&vivfan 08-10-2013, 12:34 AM I met Winkler about 10 years ago. Super nice guy. A very gentle soul. I couldn't believe I was talking to one of the biggest TV icons of all time! :)

He is. I was working on Joan Rivers' reality show in New York and was locking up traffic so we could film Joan's scene outside. A man is walking towards me on the sidewalk. As I ask him to move to the other side of the street. He kindly agrees to do so. I then say thank you....MR. WINKLER??!!! I was totally shocked!!! The entire crew stopped filming to acknowledge and applaud him and then he and Joan hugged and kissed one another and then he went on his way. It was so cool.
WalterTheDrinker 12-10-2013, 01:33 PM I walked right past Henry Winkler in the NYC subway a year or so ago. I didn't bother him, but what does that say about a celebrity that he just takes the subway like everyone else?
lucy&vivfan 12-10-2013, 02:01 PM That he's too cheap to pay for a taxi? :)

First of all celeberties are human just like the rest of us and sometimes they are going to have a bad day. Everybody expects them to be some"super hero" just because they are a celeberity. Granted they should be nice to people but they are also human.

That Fonzie money doesn't last forever either. And it's not like he made millions per episode like Seinfeld in today's market. Like he's supposed to have an enterouge around him 24 x 7 like Justin Bieber or something? Cut Henry a break?
ThomasE 01-26-2014, 05:40 PM Antman67, I could not have said it better myself.
