I remember when I first learned what red tape was. I was thirteen years old and it was the end of the summer of 1982. At nine-thirty at night, "Different Strokes" had just ended and the announcer was telling the audience what was on during the rest of the evening. I clearly remember the words "next on 'Gimme a Break!' Katie's in the hospital and Nell's hung up on red tape'". Back in those days, most prime-time shows were shown twice in a season before they headed for syndication. The first time that I saw the episode was at the tail-end of my 12th year. This was the first time that I saw the show and I fell in love with it right away! It was the classic "you purse, your purse!" line that really drew me in! I was so happy about getting to see this episode a second time! The red tape that the man was speaking about was clearly the forms that Nell had to fill out to get Katie admitted to the hospital. On top of everything else, I was happy to have learned a new term. Well, because of how slow this board has been lately, a good chunk of my time has been spent over on You Tube. Just like with this site, you have to go through a certain amount of red tape before they let you post comments on their videos. On top of that, if you post more than two message in a period of less than half an hour, a bunch of letters appears in funny writing. The poster has to type this set of letters in order for the comment to go through. This is so that no one person can monopolize the board. Even more red tape! In an attempt to avoid this additional red tape, I make it a point to space my posts within the allotted amount of time. I have already posted a bunch of messages in the recent past. If I were to post any more, I would have to go through this meaningless formality! Telling you guys about this situation is a way of killing some time before I can post again without having to deal with this nonsense!
