Just wondering if anyone ever notices the slight change to Ward's den in the "second house" in the series years 1959-60 - 1962-63? In straight-in shots (such as from inside the front door of the house), you sometimes see a floor model television set in front of the large window. At other times, there is a globe on a stand there. You do wonder why if that area is basically for Ward's use, why would the family TV be placed there? Remember, in the late-1950's - early-1960's, most households had only TV set.

Yup, I noticed it! Thought I was the only one, and the reason I noticed it, was because it was the first large tv I've ever seen used by people back in the 50's..And I also wondered why it was there especially when Beaver and Gilbert were watching it - I thought Ward's den was pretty much off limits when he's not home..I remember the globe too..Wonder where the tv went after that...

Other than the TV that is (sometimes) in the den, you really don't see a set during the series. I do recall one of the later episodes when Wally has a party in the house and Ward & June spend that time in their upstairs bedroom. Although you don't see any TV in that room, their dialogue indicates that he and she have been watching an old Dorothy Lamour movie.

I did notice that. I think Ward sometimes hides it from June so she can't watch soaps while he's away at work.

Didn't they also have a small portable one that Beaver used when he got sick and had to stay home from school? June brought it into his room..And what TV were Wally and June watching again, when they saw Beaver on TV winning that bike when he was supposed to be in school? And then when he was on that academic show with his class?

They did have a portable. But June and Wally didn't see Beaver win the bike, they saw Beaver and Larry on the cowboy hosted show and Beav and Larry told about their school getting flooded, they then got a free box of chocolate bars.

Oh yeah - that's the way it went, LOL....Ok, when he was on that "academic show", were June and Wally trying to watch him on the console tv before they knew that the show was taped previously? (or something like that)...

If memory serves, yes. Seems like Wally came home early from school to watch it.

Nope, I believe Wally was sent home sick, though he didn't act like he was sick. June brought the TV in for him to watch and that's when they saw Beaver and Larry on that show.

I'm talking about the episode that Beaver was on the show and told everyone he would be on but didn't know the show was taped.

The one where Wally came home sick and June brought the TV was the episode Larry and Beav skipped school.

The episode where Beaver is on the teen panel show is where Wally comes home from school to watch. I believe he got permission to come home and watch the show.

Oops, sorry about that. I forgot about that episode.

In "The Book Report" Episode, don't Beaver and Gilbert watch "The Three Musketeers" movie on TV in the Den?

I don't think they showed Beaver and Gilbert actually watching the movie on TV, but just referred to it afterward. I believe the film they actually were supposed to have seen is the 1939 Twentieth Century Fox version of "The Three Muskeeters" which is a parody of the novel and stars Don Ameche and The Ritz Brothers.

Gilbert and Beaver were also watching TV when Lumpy and Wally were going to a costume party, and they saw Lumpy outside and got scared?

No,

They are definitely watching the movie, because they are laughing at things like the Musketeers swinging from the Chandelier and having a pie fight. Beaver says, "Boy if it was this funny, I'd of read the book three weeks ago!"

Correct that it is an actual movie! Parts of it have been on You Tube! It's the 1933 version of Three Musketeers with Don Ameche and the Ritz Brothers. One of the songs is called "The Chicken Plucking Song!" with the Three Musketeers plucking a chicken and making chicken soup. It is a very funny musical farce, of course having nothing to do with the book.

The Cleaver TV is also seen twice in the episode, Mother's Day Composition. First Ward watches part of a boxing match before going to play bridge with June at the Rutherford's. Later, after his bath Beaver comes down to the den in his robe and turns on the TV. He then happens upon an interview and gleans some highlights to spice up his paper.

The floor-model TV in Ward's den is seen quite a bit in the series' final year (1962-63). It is during that time that Wally & June watch it when Beaver is on the panel show and also when Beaver & Gilbert tune in to watch "The Three Musketeers" movie.

Yep. They saw Lumpy and Bill Scott in Lumpy's car. Only they didn't know it was them because Lumpy was wearing a mask.

I can't remember what episode, but it's from Season 6. When Wally, Beaver, and I think Lumpy are up in Wally and Beav's room you can see a television against the wall to the right of the window behind the desk. I don't remember seeing it there in other episodes.

There is apparently another TV in series; a small portable on a cart that is seen both in the boys bedroom (brought in when one of them is sick in bed). It is also seen in the sixth season in "Party Spoiler" as Ward and June stay in their bedroom and look at it while Wally's party is going on downstairs. For many families in those days, their "second set" was many times a small black and white portable that could be moved room to room.

Just noticed in the "Long Distance Call" episode (where Beaver and two friends call Don Drysdale) that the TV is shown in the den and there is a small globe on top of it. This episdoe is from late in the 1961-62 season.

I had forgotten that Beaver and Gilbert are on the floor in the den watching a movie in Wally Stays at Lumpy's. Gilbert tells Beaver to come and watch as they are blowing up the house. Gilbert winds up staying at the Cleavers since Wally is staying at Lumpy's. There is a breakdown in communication with Ward and June.
