20 years ago, A Different World said Goodbye after 6 years and 145 episodes on NBC's Must See TV Thursday

After The Cosby Show ended in 1992, ADW was back for a 6th consecutive season, but when Dawnn Lewis left the show for Hangin' with Mr. Cooper and with so many time changes, ADW saw the ratings fall from a Top 20 all the way to #71 and as a result, the series was cancelled due to Low Ratings and ironically enough, Dawnn Lewis left Coop after just 1 season and the show had new characters and changes as well

The Final Episode of ADW was entitled "College Kid"

In this series finale, Gina, Lena, Charmaine, Dorian, and Terrell rent an off-campus apartment from a grumpy older man who turns out to be a former baseball star. He is inspired to consider attending college, particularly after seeing an old flame who is now a professor. Gina's abusive ex-boyfriend returns to try to establish contact anew, frightening her and infuriating her friends

The episode features a Special Guest Appearance by Legendary Screen Star Billy Dee Williams

Apparently, the combination of NBC being upset over the season sixth premiere discussing the then recent LA Riots, the loss of its parent show, The Cosby Show, and other "black sitcoms" like Martin dividing the demographic, and NBC reshuffling the ADW (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php/833846-Unsung-Hollywood-A-Different-World-Wednesday-February-11-8PM-on-TV-One) around the schedule is what ultimately caused ADW to be canceled.
