When Lionel made his first appearance on All in the Family, he was in his first year of college, and today I watched the Jeffersons Episode "The Break-Up: Part One" (1976) and it appears that Lionel is still in the first year of college, as he has to write a term paper, and George buys a term paper for Lionel.

I don't think he was in his first year of college because he graduated that same season.

Season 3 he is no longer in college

Come of think of it, Lionel has been in school for a LONG Time! About 6 years (4 in "All in the Family" and 2 in "The Jeffersons") I guess they never paid much attention to time frames.

I posted a thread on this very topic.

Lionel was de-aged for the Jeffersons.
In an early Jeffersons episode, it is mentioned he is 22.
However, Lionel looked around 22 back when Jefferson's premiered in early 71.

But it can be assumed he was 18 during season one like Gloria. When he went to the spinoff, he was 22. It all seemed to fit well. Plus, Mike was in college as well. They were all young folks.

Maybe season 1 of the Jeffersons was his senior year in college

Mike was in his Freshmen year of college when AITF debuted. then in season 4 he was in his final year, then given a fellowship, which allowed him to remain in school.

That means Mike and Gloria got married in High School which contradicts episodes which stated that Mike was a college man, when Gloria met him for the first time.

I wonder what he would have been doing if he never left the show because it was no way he could have still been in school at the start of season 2 of the Jeffersons
