Monday July 8, 11am PST, TCM is showing a 1964 movie with both Bob Denver and Tina Louise. FOR THOSE WHO THINK YOUNG

Tina is a nightclub singer Topaz McQuenn.

And Bob is James Darren's beach buddy Kelp.

In the most bizarre scene, Bob is buried in the sand and sings with this face upside down. You have to see it.

James Darren Gardner "Ding" Pruitt III
Pamela Tiffin Sandy Palmer
Woody Woodbury Himself
Paul Lynde Sid Hoyt
Tina Louise Topaz McQueen
Nancy Sinatra Karen Cross
Bob Denver Kelp
Claudia Martin Sue Lewis

FROM TCM
The favorite pastime of Oceancrest College students, aside from surfing, is going to the Silver Palms club where comedian Woody Woodbury performs. Wealthy playboy "Ding" Pruitt falls in love with Sandy Palmer, Woodbury's niece; but the romance disturbs Edgar Cronin, Ding's grandfather, who tries to have the club closed. Sociology professor Dr. Pauline Thayer also considers the Silver Palms scandalous and would like to see it made off limits to students. She changes her mind, however, after she falls in love with Woodbury. When Ding announces his intention to marry Sandy, Cronin arranges for the club to be raided by the police, but he drops the charges when he is revealed to be an ex-bootlegger; he then gives his approval to both the Silver Palms and Sandy.

One of Bob's better movies (not to many to chose from)

Gilligan Fanatic, you're right. It probably is Bob Denver's best movie role.

The movie is full of surprises.

Bob Denver actually plays a romantic figure romancing Nancy Sinatra and is handsome in a bearded way.

It's more an extension of his Maynard G. Krebs hipster character on Dobie Gillis. It's less like his put-upon fool role as Gilligan.

Though the movie stars teen singing idol James Darren and Frank Sinatra's daughter Nancy Sinatra and Dean Martin's daughter Claudia, the most prominent is Bob Denver singing the surf song with an upside-down puppet face.

Tina Louise sings too but in a more vampy way than on her Time for Tina torch song album.

It came out in 1964 right before Gilligan's Island started.

A bit off-topic:

Anyone know when filming of the 1st season of the show began after the pilot was sold?

Since Gilligan's Island premiered Sept 1964, my guess is regular filming began in July.

The pilot was famously filmed Nov 15 to Nov 26 1963 and continued in the face of the tragic event of Nov 22, the assassination of President Kennedy.

Of course Dawn Wells, Tina Louise and Russell Johnson weren't in the pilot. So regular filming would be when they met.

And in FOR THOSE WHO THINK YOUNG, Bob Denver and Tina Louise don't really have a scene together although they may have been together in the night club set at the same time.

On an trivial side note, in 1983 Tina Louise appeared in an episode of Knight Rider titled "The Topaz Connection," where the name Topaz is connected to her character in the episode. Topaz referred to the month of
November and her character was Miss November in a magazine. The access code turned out to be her measurements: 36-24-36.

Just one of those odd little bits of trivia.
