Arnold is destroying his career as we speak.\ \ Kim Basinger also thought she was Meryl Streep and picked inappropriate follow-up roles after L.A.Confidential but her behavior with Alec Baldwin - leaking those tapes and sacrificing her own daughter's name for vengeance ruined her career.

by: Anonymous reply 16 05/23/2011 @ 09:46AM

I agree her behaviour was appalling and cruel to her daughter; however, I don't believe for one minute that if Alec had done the same thing it would have affected his career one bit! Tina Fey still would have hired him.

Alec Baldwin chose to do "A Streetcar Named Desire" on Broadway instead of the sequel to "The Hunt For Red October." That, and his antics onset of "The Marrying Man," killed his leading man career.

It wasn't just him, [R22]. Basinger was difficult too. They hated the script and gave Neil Simon, who wrote it, a really hard time. They were constantly bashing the film and its makers in the press.

by: Anonymous reply 25 05/23/2011 @ 10:53AM

SPY Magazine did a terrific hatchet job on the making of "The Marrying Man", detailing Baldwin's onset nastiness and Basinger's insane demands. I don't remember the details, except that for EVERY take of a closeup she left the set and had her makeup completely redone (which took about an hour per retake), where any other actress just had her powder and lipstick touched up. Their unbridled egotism cost the filmmakers an unholy fortune, and then the film was a massive flop. Their careers both tanked overnight. So "LA Confidential" was actually a comeback for Basinger, a comeback which went nowhere since she was no longer young but was still a pain. And the whole flap about the phone call came well after their heydays, and after the first round of comebacks.

"but her behavior with Alec Baldwin - leaking those tapes and sacrificing her own daughter's name for vengeance ruined her career." Oh please. Baldwin is no walk in the park himself. The guy had drug and alcohol issues for the longest time. He berated the **** out of her at a LI restaurant after she won the oscar. Kim's problems stem from the fact that she has that condition where you don't want to leave your house.

Kim Basinger was the most beautiful woman in Hollywood but a total nutcase. Baldwin, who could love him? I know he is impossible but she should have just divorced him and forgot about him.

Alec always thinks he is above the rest of the pack of regular citizens. I remember about 2 years ago; he was in a commercial for Capital One and it play like 20 times a day - pushing the Capital One Travel Rewards Mileage Card.

On one flight he was on the first class seat and was playing a smartphone game and he would not stop and was kicked off the flight for not obeying the flight attendant. He got to go on SNL to make fun of himself with the same scene. So SNL kind of save his career in the process and his Capital One career too!

LOL!

Well, he was at the lugguage area wearing his dark sunglasses and the area was not lit up to maximum lighting because it was not being used. He phoned to be pickup. But the media got their first about 20 reporters and their camera personnel. Well, Alec did not want to answer their questions and keep walking but could not see to good because his glasses were to dark and the camera lights made it worse for him since it kind of blinded him and he was walking into columns that were in the baggage claims area. It was funny because he was going here and there and bumping into fix objects like he was severely drunk. Finally, the limo driver with his sign came to the rescue! He manage to use his one of his hands to move his sunglasses to one side so he could see what was going on. It was very funny! Just like the rage in NYC against the paparazzi! Only he was on the offensive instead of the defensive. Both were funny to watch! LOL!

I wonder if Kim Basinger could also suffer from Asperger's syndrome? Daryl Hannah has suggested that her Asperger’s as played a hand in wrecking her career. In a nutshell, she said: “I never went on talk shows, never went to premieres. Going to the Academy Awards was so painful for me. I’d almost faint just walking down the red carpet. I was so socially awkward and uncomfortable that I eventually got blacklisted.”

“Studio executives would call me but I’d be too shy to call them back. So after a while a couple of studios literally told my manager that I was blacklisted.”

Asperger’s syndrome wasn’t as known now as it was say, during the supposed peaks of Kim Basinger (who like Hannah, always seems very private, shy, and uncomfortable in front of the paparazzi) and Daryl Hannah’s careers. Therefore, it would’ve been easy to look at these as cases them coming across as extremely stand-offish, eccentric, and frustratingly aloof.

Kim's parents when she was really young, thought that she may have been autistic since she was always so withdrawn and quiet.

Alec Baldwin was reportedly a nightmare to work with on the set of NBC’s 30 Rock, often showing up to set late, yelling at cast and crew and complaining about something as innocuous as “dry air.” His reputation for being difficult to work with goes back much further. The Week compiled a list (http://theweek.com/articles/474487/alec-baldwins-many-many-tirades-timeline) of his many, many notable public freakouts, which are too numerous and confusing to list here.

I think that despite his real life a-hole tendencies, most people want to give Alec Baldwin a "free pass" to so speak because he's charming and he is talented, and people love him in 30 Rock. It also helps perhaps, that his ex-wife, Kim Basinger isn't exactly much of a "saint" (or has her own personality issues to put things nicely) either.

Alec Baldwin

There's no doubting that Alec Baldwin is an outspoken man. Whether he's being accused of fighting paparazzi (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUwcx1YZoSM) or shouting homophobic slurs (http://gothamist.com/2013/11/16/msnbc_suspends_alec_baldwin_after_h.php), his private life is usually shoved into the limelight on a weekly basis. And then he apologizes and we're all okay with that, because, well, he's Alec Baldwin. As a number of his co-stars have said, that's just who he is.

Does being that way make Alec Baldwin a pleasure to work with? Not always. Baldwin was allegedly part of the reason (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2013/03/shia-labeouf-calls-out-former-orphans-co-star-alec-baldwin/) Shia LaBeouf left the Broadway show Orphans in 2013 because the two actors had clashed so often at rehearsals. On 30 Rock, his co-star Cheyenne Jackson had one thing to say about Baldwin: "What I learned from him was really good comedic timing and don't get in his light (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/12/04/cheyenne-jackson-working-with-alec-baldwin-30-rock-video_n_4381814.html)."

Woody Allen was accused of one act by a scorned woman that turned against him. He's 80 years old and has never been accused of anything similar before or since. He was never charged with a crime and there's real doubt as to whether he did it or not, unlike Bill Cosby who has been accused of similar crimes by 35+ women. There's a huge difference between the two of them.

Yes, exactly. The police investigated Mia Farrow's claims that Woody Allen molested Dylan Farrow when she was a child and did not press charges. That means he was never charged with a crime. Mia Farrow never mentioned anything about this supposed molestation until she found out that Woody was romantically involved with Soon Yi, Mia's adult adopted daughter. Then suddenly Woody molested all the kids in the house. It was a dubious case to begin with and unfortunately Mia Farrow used her children as weapons against Woody, after Woody gave her back her career and $ millions over the years to support all those adopted kids. If they had proof, they'd go to the police. But they don't, so they go to the press.

Essentially what she says that like others have said here, it comes down to your own belief system but you also have to remember both sides of the coin with it. On one hand, when you give your money to a product, you're supporting that person who is problematic and that might not be something that makes people comfortable. On the other hand, especially in bigger productions, you're taking money away from production workers, from other actors, from other members of the cast and crew who might not have been aware of these actions before they were revealed.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/alec-baldwin-calls-renunciation-woody-allen-unfair-sad-1075071

In a series of tweets posted Tuesday, the actor slammed the re-emergence of sexual-abuse allegations against the director, writing, “accusing people of such crimes should be treated carefully.”

After actors Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Hall pledged to donate their salaries from their work on Woody Allen films to charity in light of the re-emergence of sexual abuse claims against Allen by adopted daughter Dylan Farrow, Alec Baldwin took to Twitter to say that he finds the public disapproval of Allen “unfair and sad.”

In a series of tweets posted Tuesday, Baldwin praised the director, stating that any charges made against Allen by Farrow were never filed. “Woody Allen was investigated forensically by two states (NY and CT) and no charges were filed. The renunciation of him and his work, no doubt, has some purpose. But it’s unfair and sad to me. I worked with WA 3 times and it was one of the privileges of my career,” Baldwin wrote.

Chalamet and Hall's decisions came after Farrow's accusations resurfaced in wake of the #MeToo movement and Time's Up initiative. In 2014, Farrow penned a letter to The New York Times, detailing her director father’s alleged abuse. Farrow wrote a similar op-ed for the Los Angeles Times last December, linking Allen to the #MeToo movement. Allen has repeatedly denied Farrow's claim that he sexually assaulted her.

Baldwin argues that sexual abuse complaints should never be dismissed, but he says accusations should also be “treated carefully.” “Is it possible to support survivors of pedophilia and sexual assault/abuse and also believe that WA is innocent? I think so,” Baldwin tweeted. “The intention is not to dismiss or ignore such complaints. But accusing ppl of such crimes should be treated carefully. On behalf of the victims, as well.”

Last year, Baldwin quit using his personal Twitter account after receiving criticism for his opinions on the #MeToo movement. The actor expressed his sympathy for victims, admitting that his “goal is to do better in all things related to gender equality.”

Chalamet announced on Instagram Monday night that he will be donating his salary from his work on the upcoming Allen film A Rainy Day in New York to three charities: Time's Up, the LGBT Center in New York and RAINN, an anti-sexual violence organization.

"I have been asked in a few recent interviews about my decision to work on a film with Woody Allen last summer ... What I can say is this: I don't want to profit from my work on the film, and to that end, I am going to donate my entire salary," Chalamet said in his statement.

Chalamet's co-star in Rainy Day, Rebecca Hall, also announced she would donate her salary from the film to Time's Up last week.

Ironically, Alec Baldwin's terrible reputation more than likely saved him many times over (like when he lost his MSNBC job for making homophobic remarks). There's already mountains of evidence that proves he's a difficult jerk, so a lot of people will attributed his remarks to that instead of just plain bigotry. Tom Hanks for example, would suffer far more if he did the same thing.

But using the "well, he's already a jerk" defense can only get you so far. It usually stops when the nasty behavior either turns to violence or, even worse, costs a studio money. He also has friends willing to speak on his behalf. If he were a has-been (especially if he didn't have 30 Rock to provide a career resurgence) or already losing his looks and/or box office appeal, he'd be toast (just like Mel Gibson). I mean the voice-mail incident against his then 11 year old daughter, should've killed Baldwin's career right then and there.

It's my opinion that Alec's anger during that phone call stemmed more from his general lack of control over his daughter's and ex-wife's lives than from his frustration at being an 'alienated father'. From what he said in his voicemail message, it seemed he wasn't even clear about the age of his own daughter nor did he appear to have any compunction about letting loose with his tirade of spectacularly belittling, insulting language, which leads me to think his behavior towards Ireland is not a new, nor one-time, occurrence.

Alec's temper tantrums and propensity towards inappropriate screaming and being verbally abusive - i.e. belittling, berating and insulting - and even breaking or punching inanimate objects, is nothing new. He has a well documented history of not being in control of his temper, with a just as well documented history of not accepting responsibility for his actions and instead placing blame on others for "causing" him to behave or react the way he does.
