Which is the better '90s sketch comedy group with a TV show geared to the Gen X crowd? The Kids in The Hall or The State (http://splitsider.com/2013/07/the-20-best-forgotten-sketches-from-the-state/)?

TV Show: Kids In the Hall. (http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1nx53y/what_movies_didnt_age_well_at_all/ccn8vj0)

It's strange because for the most part, they never focused on the pop culture of the moment. And I remember that their brand of humor sent a shock through my system and changed the way I thought. It effected me in the way Dostoevsky or Bob Dylan effected me.

So it's strange now that I can't laugh with the show anymore. It all seems broad and weird for the sake of weird. I've tried to show it to people and the silence in the room is embarrassing. The over-the-top audience reactions (lots of cheers) probably has something to do with it as well. Or maybe our sense of what's funny has changed. Old SNL from that period doesn't hold up for the most part either.

I'll always love it though, but I can only take it seriously now. The characters are rich and they represented the counterculture like no one ever did. It's actually like Shakespeare; it reads better on paper than it does acted out.
