View Full Version : Why is Girl Meets World going to air on a kiddie network for teenagers
Neutronman67 06-27-2013, 03:59 PM Why are the producers who made Boy Meets World going the desperate root and put the new decade TV show thats suppose to come out late this year early next year on a kiddie channel like Disney Channel, adults dont watch that channel, they should change their minds and put it on local station like ABC or ABC family if they want lots of people who grew up in the 90's like me to watch the show.
Schmoopie 06-29-2013, 06:36 AM Oh please, I beg to differ about adults not watching The Disney Channel! I watch it all the time and think most of the shows are hilarious. I have seen so many references to stuff from the 80's that would go over kids heads but were clearly written for my generation. There's nothing wrong with watching Disney and I even listen to Radio Disney on a regular basis. I am sad that they canceled "Good Luck Charlie" but this new show sounds good. I used to watch "Boy Meets World" when it was on prime time.
Not trying to be rude or disrespectful here. I'm just saying that adults do watch Disney. I think it probably has a bigger audience than ABC Family. I don't really like ABC Family to be honest.
Neutronman67 07-05-2013, 09:11 PM Yeah but not everybody in this world can afford Disney Channel on digital cable they should just consider to make it work on a station that millions of young people watch everyday like MTV2 or heck even NBC,man its funny i thought cory was the type of guy that did not like school i guess mr feeny made a big impact in his life nobody would ever think cory would grow up to be a Teacher, what'ts next shawn hunter is a smart scientist now lol

Well that makes sense. I never thought about the fact that not everyone has cable. Maybe the big names don't want to deal with sitcoms anymore. Seems to be going that route.
TKMetal 07-10-2013, 11:11 AM It's a series for the Disney Channel demographic not adult fans of the characters it's based on. This can't be emphasized enough.
gidgetgrape 07-10-2013, 12:03 PM You're fortunate it's coming on any channel. If a fan doesn't get The Disney Channel, I'm sure eventually it will be available on DVD or streaming. A fan could also get someone to record it for him or her.
MacLeaper 07-10-2013, 12:46 PM I remember some years back Disney used to show some of its Disney Channel sitcoms on ABC on Saturday mornings, since it owns both. ("Lizzie McGuire" and "Even Stevens" are two particular ones I remember airing. That was nice for me at a time when I didn't have cable so I couldn't see them otherwise- but I might see them on the Disney Channel every now and then at someone else's house.)
Perhaps Disney would choose to do this with "Girl Meets World" as well, but I don't know if they do this practice anymore. In any case, I'm sure it'll make its way to DVD and the Internet soon enough. And to reaffirm what Schmoopie said, I'm pretty sure there are a number of adults who watch the Disney Channel. That's one of my main viewing channels just because it's about the most decent and clean current shows I can find on TV- and even with the Disney Channel sitcoms, I don't like all of them either.
And yeah- I have noticed some 1980s references on some shows that are pretty cool- and that the actors and actresses on the shows themselves probably had little familiarity with either.
Spark Of Spirit 07-10-2013, 03:02 PM The only real negative of it being on the Disney Channel is that it most likely won't get more than 4 seasons regardless of how good it is.
It's not like the major networks are all that interested in multi-cam sitcoms.
Neutronman67 07-12-2013, 08:34 AM Like most people like me we are going to wait till the first season of Girl Meets World is on torrents, i am sure in a few years MTV2 will pick up Girl Meets World for reruns on their station.
MacLeaper 07-12-2013, 12:07 PM Well, I don't know that you can definitely say that most people will download the show from torrents... and I also don't know that I would see MTV2 airing "Girl Meets World".......maybe, I suppose.
But just to point out, if the show is not getting a lot of views from people watching The Disney Channel, it will get cancelled quickly. (i.e. Downloading episodes from torrents will not help the show in the ratings and thus in its longevity.)

Very much agreed. Much agreed.
Neutronman67 07-17-2013, 08:05 AM Yeah but if they tried hard they and used their brains they could have just made a spin-off similar to the 90's boy meets world and bring back every single character from the original 1993-2000 back in the new generation decade 2013 and call the show Man Meets World this sitcom would only revolve around cory his wife, his students and his friends i think it would have been better if they just start from where they left off back in 2000 last series episode called brave new world, we get to see cory graduate from college and ask mr feeny what he thinks about him becoming a school teacher.

I think the way they are doing it now is just fine. It's not a big issue. They are being sensible in this case.
It's been way, too long! This show, will flop like pancakes!
Neutronman67 07-28-2013, 07:52 AM GQ28 I agree with your theory this show will be canceled after the first season i will be shocked if this show makes it to 2015, i much rather just see a show about cory life as an adult male trying to make it in the world then a 13 year old girl who still plays with barbe dolls, they should have made the spin-off show in 2004 or 2005 but why wait till 2014, i think we are going to be seeing alot of show's that were canceled in the 90's being made into a spin-off in a few years lol.
Lol....You never know, " The New Dallas" and " Hawaii 5-O" is a hit!
Spark Of Spirit 07-29-2013, 06:44 PM It takes a lot to cancel a sitcom on the Disney Channel.
Neutronman67 08-02-2013, 07:08 AM IT's easy to cancel a sitcom show on Disney Channel if the viewers dont like the show or nobody is watching it, then it gets quickly taken off the air fast.
With GMW, it's debatable that the show is trying to have the same type of Mr. Feeny-inspired "lesson"/PSA vibe that BMW, but it's held back from the more sanitized (for example, the bullying episode "The Forgotten", centered on Farkle Minkus when compared to the less-vague first season episode featuring Cory saying some ethnic slurs to Shawn as a point and then going on about Anne Frank), present day Disney Channel environment.
