Hey guys,

20 years ago, Quantum Leap says goodbye to NBC after 5 seasons and only 96 episodes

The series ended with a 1 Hour Series Finale entitled "Mirror Image"

This finale was written by series creator and producer Donald P. Bellisario and directed by James Whitmore, Jr. of TV's Baa Baa Black Sheep and HUNTER Fame

The Leap Date was August 8, 1953

In the Series Finale, Sam arrives at a mining town as himself on the date and exact hour he was born. Patrons of the town bar look familiar from past leaps, but with different names, other patrons seem to be leapers, and Al the bartender (played by Bruce McGill) implies that he might be God, Fate, or Time. While trying to figure things out, Sam has to help save some trapped miners, regain contact with Al, and learns that he can and has always been able to return home whenever he wants. He agrees to continue leaping, in exchange for the chance to go back to when he met Al's wife on a previous leap and tell her that Al is still alive. In the end, Al and his wife remain together and have four daughters while Sam never returns home.

Guest Stars include Richard Herd of T.J. Hooker Fame, Canadian Actor Stephen McHattie of the NBC Miniseries Centennial and British Actor W. Morgan Sheppard

and now, here's the Video Clip of the NBC Promo of The Series Finale of Quantum Leap - The Final Leap

OMG, that show ended that long ago? Wow!!

It sure did, I remember when Quantum Leap was in its 5th and Final Season, the show made its jump to Tuesday Nights on NBC

You see, when NBC cancelled both Matlock and In the Heat of the Night, both shows found themselves on different networks

Matlock moved to abc while Heat moved to CBS (the network where the late Carroll O'Connor played the role of Archie Bunker for many years)

and so, NBC needed a line-up to compete against abc's Tuesday Night Comedies

However, during the 92/93 Season, NBC moved Law & Order to Wednesday Nights and they decided to add 2 NEW Shows for NBC Tuesday Nights

They had a 1 hour drama from Creator and Producer Robert Singer Executive Producer of Midnight Caller and Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman called Reasonable Doubts with Mark Harmon of St. Elsewhere and NCIS Fame and Famed Actress Marlee Matlin @ 9/8 Central Time Slot and Dateline NBC with Jane Pauley of the Famed Today Show and Stone Phillips @ the 10/9 Central Time Slot and so, when they moved Law & Order to Wednesday Nights @ 10/9 Central (which was Quantum Leap's Time Slot), they decided to move Quantum Leap to Tuesday Nights @ 8/7 and the show also changed its theme to a more adventurous sound, but also, Quantum Leap was up against abc's Full House and its new sitcom from the Creator of Full House in Hangin' with Mr. Cooper Starring 6'6" Comedian Mark Curry and Holly Robinson Peete of 21 Jump Street and For Your Love Fame plus, it also had Dawnn Lewis of A Different World Fame and it was also up against CBS' Original Series Rescue 911 with Star Trek Legend William Shatner

and I guess you can say, Quantum Leap didn't get good ratings against the 3 shows @ the time, but it was still a good season, but the show still remains a cult favorite among many of its fans

and when they showed the Final Leap, they moved the series finale back to its original night and time of Wednesday Night @ 10/9 Central and it was a sad moment to see
