I didn't know there was a Lost in Space thread on Sitcoms Online . I'm too young to remember much of Lost in Space, but I want to get the entire series on DVD, and every time Jonathan ( "Dr . Zachary Smith" ) Harris appeared on a TV show after 1968, I wondered "Where did I see him before ?" .

I read where Dr . Smith was always trying to make a deal with whatever aliens appeared on the show to get back to Earth without the Robinsons . I also read that in 2002, the surviving cast of the TV series were planning to make a
two -- hour movie titled Lost in Space : The Journey Home until Jonathan Harris was taken to the hospital and died .

I say the time to come out with Lost in Space : The Journey Home was during the 1971 -- 1975 time period . By the same token, by the time of the events depicted in Lost in Space : The Journey Home, Dr . Zachary Smith would have seen the error of his ways, the Robinsons would have learned to trust him, and they would have become friends . How many of you would have liked to see this depicted in a final Lost in Space movie ?

The should've done a reunion movie while Guy Williams was still alive imo.

I saw a youtube video where Bill Mumy was interviewed. In 1975 he wrote a script about wrapping up the series. Was to be a 2 hour movie of the week. He got the blessing from all the other cast members who were still very much alive and well in 1975. He got the blessing from CBS too. Then Bill contacted Irwin Allen and Allen told him no, that "Lost in Space" was HIS show, and that if he wanted to do a final show, HE would write it, and he didn't want Mumy to sue him. Bill told him "Mr. Allen, this is just a labor of love, I don't intend to sue you." Allen told him if he planned to do a final 2 hour movie, he would call him and hung up on him. To Bill's tremendous credit, he said he understands now why Irwin did what he did, but at the time Bill felt very hurt. My understanding is that Irwin Allen could be quite a difficult person. It's a shame they could not have resolved the program using the original cast members. Thankfully Gilligan's Island did so, except for Tina Louise who wanted no part of being Ginger anymore. I guess that's why fan fiction exists. I'd love to see the script or screenplay Bill wrote to see how Lost in Space finally would be resolved.
