Valerie Harper will share her battle against incurable brain cancer in an NBC News documentary hosted by Meredith Vieira.

"This first-person account captures Harper's raw, emotional and hopeful journey as she goes through experimental treatments and lives each day to the fullest with her husband, Tony Cacciotti, and their daughter, Christina," NBC News said in a statement Tuesday.

The network said a prime-time air date for the one-hour program will be announced later.

Harper gained stardom as Rhoda Morgenstern on "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" in the 1970s and later graduated to her own sitcom, "Rhoda." She had been open and upbeat about her diagnosis in a series of TV interviews.

NBC News said crews have had "unprecedented access into her life to help tell her story -- every step of the way." Those steps will include doctors' visits, surgeries and reunions with friends.

Harper rejoined colleagues from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" to film an episode of "Hot in Cleveland," which stars Betty White.

I admire Valerie a lot for her willingness to openly share her journey with the rest of us. Most people would want to be extremely private at a time like this.
