View Full Version : DroopyVids: A great new Classic TV online video site
For those of you who love to watch your favourite shows online and love the classics of TV's early years like I do, a new video site has come along that combines plenty of public domain series with full episodes of classic shows taken from YouTube. The website is called DroopyVids. The videos are organized into different categories divided evenly between Public Domain and Classic TV subcategories. I would compare it to another great new site that I found earlier this year called Uncle Earl's Classic TV which accomplishes the same thing. Between them and the original YouTube I'm pretty much hooked except with DroopyVids, a whole batch of new videos are added every day and the selection is of a greater variety, Another neat feature which I love to use a lot is the "Random Video" option located at the top of the page. That is a lot of fun! To give you an idea of what's there, I'll list some of the categories but first here is the homepage:
Categories:
PUBLIC DOMAIN
Comedy - Ozzie and Harriet, The Life Of Riley, Abbott & Costello, I Married Joan, Red Skelton, Love That Bob, Burns and Allen, Beverly Hillbillies, The Eve Arden Show, My Little Margie
Game Shows - What's My Line?, I've Got A Secret, Beat The Clock, Do You Trust Your Wife?, Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts, Chance Of A Lifetime, Concentration, Dollar A Second, DR I.Q.
Kids Shows - Pinky Lee, Howdy Doody, Captain Midnight, Captain Video, Mr Wizard, Ding Dong School
Westerns - 26 Men, Annie Oakley, Bonanza, Cisco Kid, Cowboy G-Men, Dusty's Trail, The Lone Ranger
CLASSIC TV
Comedy - Laugh-In, Petticoat Junction, Get Smart, All In The Family, Mork & Mindy, Welcome Back Kotter, WKRP In Cincinnati
Family TV - Andy Griffith, Flipper, Patty Duke, Family Affair, Lassie, The Facts Of Life, The Love Boat, My Three Sons
Sci-Fi and Horror - Star Trek, Fantasy Island, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea, Batman, Battlestar Galactica
War - Baa Baa Black Sheep, Rat Patrol, 12 O'Clock High, Combat, McHale's Navy, The Phil Silvers Show, Gomer Pyle USMC
Westerns - Rawhide, Bonanza, High Chaparral, Wanted: Dead Or Alive, Have Gun Will Travel, F Troop, Davy Crockett, Gunsmoke, Wild Wild West
And they're just getting started! There will be a lot more to come. To keep up with the new additions, you can look here:

DroopyVids 06-18-2013, 05:41 PM Wow, now you got me blushing. I saw a jump in usage from here and had to come in and find out what this place is. I can see it's a wonderful, magical place along the lines of what I do.
I am up to a little over 1000 tv full vids now. In the end, I will have over 10,000 tv and movie vids. And many of them will be Public Domain.
Sorry about not calling many of the Sitcoms by the name Sitcom. I use comedy and Family since that is pretty well who they are for or what they are.
As for the name, I originally wanted Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.com but it was already taken so I went with my second choice of DroopyVids.com and surprisingly, it wasn't taken and it's a little easier to spell.
Thank you for your kind words and you all are welcome to DroopyVids.com . And when you do a search, I see that search and will try and bring it to you. Sorry, too many others online so I won't be able to answer the searches directly. But when you do a search, I do what I can to get them. But DroopyVids is a legal site all the way as determined by the DCMA and the latest Supreme Court Ruling. This means that you can ask for anything but unless it can be legally obtained, it won't be on DroopyVids at all. Especially those that are within the last 15 or less years. In fact, I have very little from the 90s, some from the 80s, a larger number from the 70s, A lot from the 60s and a ton from the 50s and even some from the 40s.
So my thanks to all of you.
Daryl
tooltime1987 06-18-2013, 07:38 PM I hope they have 90s Sitcoms like Family Matters, Home Improvement, ETC.
I love the website name
So do I! And so does this guy:

That was in case you need a mascot!
Now on the website itself, there is a place where you can contact the admin. or ask questions. But I'll do it here instead since I find it easier. The first one is, what happens when you register and sign up? Do you get to see more videos? That would be nice. The other comment I have is that since requests for more specific shows are always encouraged, I'd like to place a few of my own (OK More than a few, I can't get most of these shows on TV right now):
Comedies:
Dennis The Menace, Donna Reed Show, Father Knows Best, Dobie Gillis, The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, The Monkees, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Car 54 Where Are You?, The Munsters, Gidget, The Flying Nun, Family Affair, Leave It To Beaver, Gilligan's Island.
Cartoons
Hanna-Barbera (Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Flintstones, etc.), Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Archies, Underdog, Popeye, George Of The Jungle, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Casper, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck.
Others:
The Three Stooges, Little Rascals, Laurel & Hardy.
Good luck!

Might find copyright problems with that. And how did you know I was an Ape, was it the bananas branding about, or the extreme hairy body I have. You must be physic

Not a single one of the vids require you to log on. But you can send messages directly to the admin if you are logged on.
All of those are copyrighted. But there is way to have some of them. I am looking all the time. I can't have copyrighted materials on my disk. That being said, there are other ways but we have to take what we get on that.
Cartoons
Hanna-Barbera (Scooby Doo, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Flintstones, etc.), Rocky & Bullwinkle, The Archies, Underdog, Popeye, George Of The Jungle, Sabrina The Teenage Witch, Casper, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck.
Some of these are on my list to get after I take care of the TV programs. Some are also Public Domain and others aren't. For sure, anything Disney will NEVER, EVER be public domain. With enough Bribe.....er.......Campaign contributions, Disney just moves the bar. Take a good look at the Mickey Mouse Act. Do a search on that one.
Others:
The Three Stooges, Little Rascals, Laurel & Hardy.
Good luck!
Safe bet on these 3. I know the little rascals are PD and so are some of Laurel and Hardy since anything produced by Hal Roach went into Public Domain. While almost all Lil Rascals are PD, not all Laurel and Hardy are.
On a different note, there is a bit more that a registered person can do. You can find Vids on the net (Sorry, no pirate sites) and suggest them in the suggest a video, you can comment on the vids that are there, you can make your own Favorites List.
Also, if a person wishes to help with the system, there is something called "Editor" and "Moderator".
What the Editor can do is add and edit the Articles. This is something that is badly needed.
But I won't limit viewing the vids just for logging in. Now, if I were driving for membership, that might be a factor but I never have. Free is Free.

Droopy,
Today, I saw a new site which looked very similar to DroopyVids so I'm guessing it's yours. It's an all-cartoon version which is called FunnierMoments (http://www.funniermoments.com/index.php) and it's very good. It has mostly Hanna-Barbera cartoons (my favorites!) and I'm guessing that there may be others coming soon, like possibly the characters I requested last month. As for the H-B group, the ones that are there now are all great. I'm hoping you can add these to brighten it up a little more:
The Flintstones (shouldn't be a problem)
Dastardly & Muttley & Their Flying Machines
The New Scooby Doo Movies
The Pebbles & Bamm Bamm Show
Tom & Jerry (The original shorts produced by H-B)
I recommend the new site for everyone that likes Droopyvids. One more thing: Are you working on any more? If you are, let us know right here and I'll check it out!

No, it isn't mine. It uses similar software probably. I took a look at it. All of the vid files are locally held. The problem is, most of the vids are still under copyright. Watch it fast, it may not be long for the world as it's listed as a pirate site or will be when the copyright holders "CBS and WB" find it. As long as it's not too popular, it will fly under the radar. Let it get popular like doopyvids.com is and the Copyright Holders (Primarily CBS and WB) will monitor it closely just waiting for a reason to shut it down.
The Flintstones (shouldn't be a problem)
Still under copyright by Hanna Barbera Productions.
Dastardly & Muttley & Their Flying Machines
Still under copyright by Hanna Barbera Productions.
The New Scooby Doo Movies
Still under copyright by Spelling Productions.
The Pebbles & Bamm Bamm Show
Still under copyright by Hanna Barbera Productions.
Tom & Jerry (The original shorts produced by H-B)
A bunch of the earlier works are PD but after 1963, none of them are PD.

I am trying to get through the Regular PD TV Programs and a few classic NBC programs before I move heavily on to the cartoons. When I do, I will go after each and every PD cartoon and animation that exists like I am doing with the PD TV shows. I won't create a separate site as droopyvids.com (http://droopyvids.com) will still be able to handle them all. But I do check each and every vid for PD status before I put them out as PD. If it's not listed in the PD section, it's not PD. The difference is, some come, some go but only a few continue on forever. Droopyvids.com (http://droopyvids.com) follows the laws and will continue. Now, don't get me wrong, I don't agree with the current laws but to operate outside of those laws pretty much insures the demise of the site sooner or later.
Now, don't get me wrong. His site may very well be within the law. He might embed them from another area using direct URL. I do that myself. But when I find an area with copyrighted materials I always embed where you can see where it is coming from. According to a ruling in the 7th Appellate court decision, it's not the embedder that is in violation but the original site that houses the files. I wish him all the luck and good fortune in the world and a cartoon site is much appreciated on the net.

I've started adding cartoons. Of course, Public Domain gets the priority. Plus there are cartoons that are banned from any kind of TV or even movies in there as well dealing with War, Race, etc.. In the 50s, they were on Saturday Morning but by the 70s, they were no longer allowed to be broadcast. Today, they are verboten completely. But since DroopyVids does not operate as the judge and jury, they are presented exactly or close to it as possible just like they were back in the olden days.
Trivia Question: In 1932, Popeye the Sailor Man made it's first Debut inside of another Cartoon. What was that Cartoon?

Are you going to add any black sitcoms from the 70's and 80's?

Only if I can legally post them. Almost everything since 1964 is automatically under copyright. I am not saying it can't be legally done so how about a list of what you are looking for.

I added some of these. But watch them quick. The Networks will be shutting them off quickly.
Hey Solomon! I found this on YouTube just for you! Let me know what you think:
Oldies But Goodies Playlists (http://www.youtube.com/user/Belgusto1/videos?shelf_index=5&view=1&sort=dd)
Zoneboy 08-04-2013, 06:30 PM I've been watching some of the pilots that were never picked-up by the networks and have enjoyed some of them and others not-so-much. The only thing I don't care for is when I pause the video, a row of related videos pops-up in the middle of the screen. This is especially annoying when I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out who a particular actor/actress was and when I pause the screen to read the credits they get blocked out.

That feature is built in. I have put out a request from the author of the program to see if we can get around it. It looks good but really doesn't have any real feature. So hang in there.

That annoying feature has been deleted from the system. As neat is it looks, I can see where it might get in the way to stop at a certain place you want to study. Thanks for the catch.
While I was at it, I upgraded to the newest version and fixed the Mobile part of things with an update to that.
