Henry Winkler on The Fonz: "Happy Days" Actor Opens Up About His Motorcycle Skills
06/15/2013
Attention, Fonzie fans: Henry Winkler does not ride a motorcycle.
While on NBC's "Extra", the "Happy Days" actor admitted that the question he gets asked most often is whether he rides a motorcycle.
"The answer is that this short Jew does not know how to ride a motorcycle!" Winkler joked. "I think it is in the Torah to not ride a motorcyle!"

I knew he didn't ride one at the time but it's been years since HD left the air. I figured he would have tried it at least.

There's something ironic about the actor who played Fonzie not knowing how to ride a motorcycle!

Correct. Google or go on Amazon and look for "hank zipzer" those are Henry'd books. He is very proud of them. I may get a chance to meet Fonzie. I heard he's going to be in NJ in July.

What totally amazes me about Henry Winkler is how absolutely different he is from the Fonzie character that he portrayed. In fact, I can't think of one other sitcom actor or actress who was so vastly different from the character that he (or she) portrayed on the screen. I mean, it's not uncommon for actors to not be at all like their characters.......But Henry and The Fonz are like total polar OPPOSITES!
I will never forget the very first time I saw Henry out of his Fonz character back in the late 1970s. Saw him someplace, don't really remember where...maybe on Johnny Carson...but I remember just being blown away by how un-Fonzie-like he was. I remembered thinking at the time that The Fonz probably wouldn't like Henry very much, and Henry probably wouldn't care very much for Fonzie either. I mean, I didn't expect Henry to BE The Fonz when he was out of character, but I at least expected to see just a LITTLE bit of resemblance. And I saw none of it. Once again, I think that goes back to Henry's acting ability.

Henry Winkler had done a guest spot on Bob Newhart in 1974 where he played a completely different character than the Fonz, over the years he has done a pretty wide range of characters.
I love the character he plays on Royal Pains
