It's one of the reasons they're always broke. A lot of people don't know how to handle money well.

Yup, I've always noticed that. They're not at the Frugal Hoosier buying fresh fruits and veggies very often!!!

Frankie Heck is a loving mother but the kind that may have a bit of trouble at times being too outward about it.Bottom line here is-yes she may seem like not such a caring mom because you don't see her too often(or is it at all?)slaving over a hot stove making a nice meal for dad and kids, but she IS usually quite busy with something to do with the kids and she DOES make sure EVERYONE gets fed.Same with her husband, who's a really good dad.

Supermarket prices these days aren't exactly cheap -- a family really needs to chase specials and do couponing to save money, and that takes time. And due to last year's drought, watch out for meat prices...!

Takeout may be a more attractive option from that standpoint as well -- if the grocers are going to slap outrageously high prices on their stuff, why not get some prepared foods and save the hassle as well...!

don't forget this is a sitcom aboaut a family. a lot of action is generated around mealtimes. think about your own lives; it makes sense.

That's very true but the irony in that statement is that many sociologists thoroughly believe that part of the destruction of the average American family unit is(TA DA!)TELEVISION!

for a family who's always broke.
And also with all that take out, you'd think they's be as big as a house.

My next door neighbor spends zero time in her kitchen, yet she's thin as a rail. Just because a person isn't a supermarket or health foods store shopper doesn't mean they're going to be obese. A prepared salad from Panera Bread is more healthy than much of the overpriced junk you'll find at a grocery.
