I'm not familiar with all the episodes and have a question. Otis, the lovable drunk of Mayberry, spent many nights sleeping it off in Andy's jail. I'm curious if his drinking problem was ever addressed on the show. Did anyone try to help him?
I know it wasn't an issue-type show or known for social commentary, but I'm curious just the same.

About 10 years ago there was a Return to Mayberry show. I do remember someone mentioning Otis had joined AA and now ran icecream store.

In one episode, Warren the deputy tried to help Otis sober up by getting him involved in mozaic(sp?) art. It turned out Otis did his best art work when he was a little "gassed".
