Yes, Stack was great. But re-watching the brief specials he did, why didn't they keep Burr? I thought he was pretty good.

View Full Version : Why didn't UM stick with Raymond Burr as host? ILikeTurtles 06-10-2013, 05:46 PM Yes, Stack was great. But re-watching the brief specials he did, why didn't they keep Burr? Not sure if this is 100% true but it is the information given on the show's IMDB page. TheCars1986 06-11-2013, 07:55 AM I thought Malden had a better narrator's voice than Burr, but neither come close to Robert Stack. Glad they went with him for the show's duration. It's true it comes directly from a press release from Cosgrove-Meurer, I believe around the time of one of their anniversary shows. They had a Q&A included in the presser I believe and mentioned that Burr and Malden wanted salaries that were significantly higher than what Stack requested. WishfulDreamer 06-11-2013, 07:16 PM Makes Stack all the more loveable, IMO. Agreed. I didn't mind Burr or Malden. I think Burr had a nice voice and that Malden really did his best to get in character, all the way down to a detective hat  I find their segments enjoyable to watch, but of course, I find Stack to be king. Far Off Promise 06-11-2013, 11:52 PM I feel the same way about Malden and Burr that I do about Farina. The only difference is that Malden and Burr both got to put their stamp on their episodes, while Farina has been handicapped into dubbing the English language version of Stack's episodes into the English language version of ADHD UM. I think Farina, if given the opportunity (and assuming he cares about the fans of the show), could do a similar job. It's too bad that they're both dead now. It would have made for an interesting show if they could have brought them both back and had commentary from them and Farina. On a similar note, there's always Virginia Madsen :p karenjanee 06-14-2013, 09:22 PM ...The only difference is that Malden and Burr both got to put their stamp on their episodes, while Farina has been handicapped into dubbing the English language version of Stack's episodes into the English language version of ADHD UM. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: schmave 06-18-2013, 10:16 PM I've seen a few of the Farina episodes, and they're just so lazy. It has nothing to do with Farina and everything to do with just repackaging 20-year-old cases with virtually no effort outside snazzing up the old footage. TracyLynnS 06-19-2013, 09:26 AM "snazzing up the old footage" :D I wonder who's idea that was. They really missed the mark with the graphics, rock music, quick editing, etc. Who successfully pitched that mess? I'm sure they were thinking the restyle would appeal to a new generation of viewers but just seeing the amount of young people here who are UM fans proves they don't need that stuff to make the show appeal to the targeted age bracket. Who let them butcher the segments, viewed the awful result, and thought it was so great they had to put it on TV? |
