Tom Sharpe was one of those public school upper crust English novelists in the mould of Evelyn Waugh. He created Henry Wilt,a frustrated polytechnic lecturer who had fantasies about murdering his wife. Influenced by his father he dallied with Hitler at a time when many people just didn't understand who he was or what he was about. He moved to South Africa after the war but was deported in 1961 after writing anti-apartheid plays. He married Nancy Anne Looper from North Carolina in 1969 and they had two daughters.
