Hello. I contacted Tvshowsondvd.com to see if they could find out from TimeLife (Starvista) if they are including these 5 unaired episodes (or even if they exist) since they are in contact with the owners of distribution for Mama's Family. Here if the message I sent/received.

"Hello. One of the holy grail questions is are there 5 unaired episodes of Mama's Family?? I see this question on every message board for this show and I even have titles from an old episode guide from epguides.com. They are scattered throughout the seasons as opposed to clumped together. Any information you can acquire from Star Vista with their upcoming release would be greatly appreciated. I would love to finally see these episodes but just to know the back story once and for all would be brilliant. Were they filmed (there is a little evidence that they actually were but never shown)? Or were these just scripts that never made it to filming? Anyways, below are the titles. As always, Tvshowsondvd.com is a lifesaver and I can't thank you enough for your work.

Various sources have claimed there are actually 135 episodes of Mama's Family as opposed to 130. According to the claims, five lost episodes exist that never aired in reruns after their original airing: 1. Playball (4th season episode) 2. Snow Job (5th season episode) 3. Raytown Without Pity (5th season episode) 4. Wedding Presence (5th season episode) 5. Bubba's Photo Class (6th season episode)."

RESPONSE:

Hey Bryan, I forwarded your email to TimeLife, and they did some research and determined there aren't any unaired episodes. Bummer! Everything they wrote was filmed.

So. I guess this pretty much puts a damper on the idea that there are still 5 unaired episodes kept under lock and key. Hope this helps anyone (like me) who just wanted a definitive answer to this question.

It's just a rumor, and they most likely were scripted but never filmed episodes. Otherwise, you would have heard something already (like that banned episode from the original Hawaii Five-O for example).

That, and 130 episodes was 100% enough for this show to be repeated twice a year in syndication.

Thanks for printing the titles, I had forgotten all but 2 and was just going from my own memory.

I wonder how these got started lol b/c I've seen these rumores since 2001.

I would have been surprised if they existed. There have been plenty of shows that had unaired episodes and they are usually always included when a show goes into syndication.

Yes, thanks for the clarification! It's disappointing that there are no lost episodes, but we have plenty of episodes to cherish. :)

That said, some of those had interesting titles! If scripted, I wonder what Raytown Without Pity entailed?

Based on those rumors I heard was just guessing that would have been the one where Eunice returns with an illness or something. Maybe Eunice having a hard time finding a hospital that would take her due to no insurance or something like that and maybe finally a make up scene between Mama and Eunice.

I wish an episode like that had existed.

and maybe finally a make up scene between Mama and Eunice.

Their last scene in "Cellmates" was such a scene; Vicki said that was a way to give some closure to Mama and Eunice since Eunice had to "leave" the show and let Mama be the star of her family now.

There were no unaired episodes of Mama's Family, and the individual who said this, who refused to accept this fact, and put me on ignore, is a moron.

I am in the process of building on a production guide for the show, with production codes and all. They will prove that there were NO unaired episodes of the program.

Dorothy Lyman mentions in an interview on the complete series set special features that Carol Burnett sent flowers to her dressing room for all 136 tape days of "Mama's Family". I'm not sure how tapings work but this info may add fuel to the fire for those people who believe there are unaired episodes.

Of which, again for those people, there are none and never were.

And regarding the # 136, it's so easy for actors to misremember details of a show they did 30 years ago. Even Vicki herself sometimes contradicts herself on memories of her TCBS and MF experiences.

I'm not holding anyone in the cast of MF accountable. We're all capable of misremembering things.

Even I've misremembered things in the past, as well. We're all only human, after all.

I don't think there's unaired episodes but I just thought I'd post this info. I think Dorothy was thinking there were 36 NBC episodes and 100 syndicated episodes. As we all know, that is incorrect. There were actually 35 NBC episodes and 95 syndicated episodes.
