Much cuter in the 1st 4. ponytail 06-01-2013, 10:04 AM I always loved her hair styles. I thought they were cute. It looked like she had thick hair, which I don't. OH Nuts! 06-02-2013, 09:50 AM BB was a very attractive lady, no doubt about it. I loved her hairstyles too. As well as her clothes and figure. mrbreezeet1 06-02-2013, 10:57 AM BB was a very attractive lady, no doubt about it. I loved her hairstyles too. As well as her clothes and figure. Yes she was an attractive lady, but I just can't stand here hair in this season. I guess I am always the odd man. HarryWild 09-20-2013, 11:02 PM For me; June Cleaver got better looking in each season of the show. The first season not counting the pilot; she had a very short cut hair do but as the season progressed; her hair grew out. And in the 5th season of the show? the last season; it was kind of sophisticated. Her clothing on the show got better quality look too. I think at the end of the show; she was in her mid 50s and still looked very attractive! mrbreezeet1 09-21-2013, 11:10 AM I still say it looks stupid in season 5. And I can't stand it. Hughsgirl 09-23-2013, 12:46 PM I agree and feel that she became even more attractive as the show went on. CanICallYouDad 09-23-2013, 01:11 PM June was a babe. If all women greeted their men at the door things would be better. But then Ward was a good guy. I wouldn't want to meet a schlump at the door. Her hair really reflected the days styles as did her brassieres. Very pointy. Hey, I am a guy and she's not my Mom, what can I say? Zinc2 09-24-2013, 05:53 PM Barbara Billingsley was 41 years old when the show started and 47 when it ended in 1963. The writers made her a great mom and a great wife and she portrayed June very well. Her hairstyle in Season Five is not my favorite, but I understand it. Look back at the hairstyles in 1962. Jackie Kennedy had a profound effect on the popular haircuts of the era---as did certain movie stars. The longer flip style just reflected the times. The short to medium haircuts she wore in earlier episodes sure seemed to fit her though. Whenever she appeared after LITB ended (professionally or for interviews) her hair and clothes were impeccable. Funny---the only photo of Barbara on the front cover of the DVD series is Season Five. In the 1950s, women of TV tended to have either quite short styles, or their longer hair was pinned up. Cloris Leachman and June Lockhart both had long hair when working on Lassie, yet rarely was it seen down -- usually just in scenes around bedtime. Lucille Ball's hair was usually pulled back, as was Audrey Meadows' (The Honeymooners). Jane Wyatt was always seen in short hair on Father Knows Best. Teenage daughters on shows like these tended to favor ponytails, like Elinor Donahue on Father Knows Best and Shelley Fabares in the early seasons of The Donna Reed Show. Donna Reed's hair I believe was at its shortest when her series began. As she went to longer lengths, oftentimes she wore a barette at the back. Had Leave It to Beaver run a couple of seasons more, it's very likely that Barbara would be seen in a style similar to what Donna & Shelley went to in the mid-sixties. My wife pointed out to me that women on westerns in the 60's had current style hair and makeup. It's a bugger to see 1960's hair and makeup in the old west. Just watch an episode of Bonanza. I don't know who your avatar is but she has 60's hair and it looks to be from a western. ThomasE 10-27-2013, 08:23 PM I like her hairstyles during the last two season of the show. Season five with that flip do. It can be seen in the opening when she is calling the guys over for drinks as they do the yardwork. The other is when they all load into the car to go on the picnic during the last season opening. I liked those hairdos . |
