And tossing her bong out the window...

Amanda Bynes has been arrested in New York for marijuana possession. TMZ reports (http://www.tmz.com/2013/05/23/amanda-bynes-arrested-marijuana-possession-new-york-city/) that Amanda was arrested after police showed up responding to a call about a disorderly person at her apartment building. Amanda was reportedly behaving erratically, such as talking to herself.

When the police showed up Amanda flipped out and began kicking and screaming as she was arrested, yelling "Don't you know who I am?"

Sources with law enforcement say she has been charged with criminal possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence. The latter two charges are because she allegedly threw a bong out of her apartment window; the evidence tampering charge is a felony.

Amanda Bynes Accuses Arresting Police Officer of Sexual Harassment
May 25, 2013
by Sadie Gennis

Amanda Bynes claims she was sexually harassed by one of the police officers who arrested her Thursday night.

Bynes was arrested in her Manhattan apartment Thursday night after she threw a bong out the window, according to the police. But the actress shared a very different version of events Saturday afternoon.

"Don't believe the reports about me being arrested. It's all lies," Bynes wrote. "I was sexually harassed by one of the cops the night before last which is who then arrested me. He lied and said I threw a bong out the window when I opened the window for fresh air. Hilarious. He slapped my vagina. Sexual harassment. Big deal."

The actress said that when she called police to report the offending officer, he handcuffed her and she resisted. Bynes doesn't deny that she was then taken to a mental hospital where she underwent a brief psychiatric evaluation.

"I kept asking for my lawyer but they wouldn't let me," she wrote.

Bynes added that the police "found no pot on me or bong outside my window" which is why a judge let her go.

"I only smoke tobacco I don't drink or do drugs. I've never had a bong in my life!" Bynes wrote hours after her release on Friday.

But Bynes' legal issues weren't the only things on her mind this weekend. The actress shared, "I need to get another nose job after seeing my mugshot!"

Bynes is due back in court July 9.

Police: Amanda Bynes Was Not Sexually Harassed
May 28, 2013
by Sadie Gennis

Police have found "no evidence" to support Amanda Bynes' claims that she was sexually harassed by an officer during her arrest last week, the New York Police Department said Tuesday.

"Internal Affairs investigators have found no evidence to corroborate Ms. Bynes' allegations," the NYPD said in a statement. "To the contrary, a credible civilian witness who was with the officers throughout told investigators that none touched Ms. Bynes inappropriately or otherwise engaged in misconduct at any time."

Last Thursday, Bynes was arrested after police said she threw a bong out her apartment window and was seen smoking a joint in the complex lobby. After her release the next morning, Bynes shared her version of the incident, which included an officer "slapping her vagina" and claims that the police fabricated the alleged bong-toss.

Bynes then shared her plans to sue both the NYPD "for illegally entering my apartment, lying about drugs on me and lying about me tampering with non-existent drug paraphernalia" and her apartment complex for lying about her smoking in the building.

Bynes, who's due in court July 9, faces charges of unlawful possession of marijuana, reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence.

i think its all an act - like the Joaquin Phoenix thing a few years back

seriously though, this weekend it was on the local news that the cops made a traffic stop and smelled marijuana so they searched the guy's car and found his rather substantial stash, which he then explained to the officers (and on the news) that it was OK because he wasn't gonna sell it, it was party favors for his Memorial Day BBQ, and they could come on over ifn they wanted...

That's what I'm hoping. I wasn't really aware of the Joaquin Phoenix experiment, but after watching his bizarre interview on Letterman, I'm starting to see the similarities. Besides the erratic behavior, Joaquin publicly "retired" and declared that he wanted to become a rapper. Both of which Amanda has done. I've been watching clips of Amanda on YouTube, and there was one video as recent as 2012 in which she acted 100% normal. It just doesn't make sense that in less than a year her personality has done a complete 180. With Lindsay Lohan, it was a much more gradual progression and Lohan's behavior wasn't even as extreme as Bynes', IMO. The only things that don't make sense are her extremely hateful tweets to celebrities and her illegal actions. Even if this is all a joke, those are still horrible things to say about people (unless the celebs are in on the joke too), and she's still getting arrested (unless the arrests were somehow staged). It is curious that her cases keep getting mysteriously dropped.

While I thought it was an act at first, I don't think it is anymore. I think she has serious mental issues. Why would she purposely get in trouble with the law all in the name of "an act?".

I honestly feel really bad for her. She obviously has some serious problems and the media certainly isn't helping things.

I don't think it's an act, either. First of all, Joaquin Phoenix was an Oscar-nominated actor and still a highly visible figure when he pulled that "hoax". Amanda Bynes' career has been in limbo for some time. She hasn't had a hit (TV show or movie) in a long time. (She doesn't sing, does she)? She was held up as a teen role model for several years, and maybe all that pressure built up over time finally spilled over. Then again, that's just my guess.

I think Amanda's life really started sliding downhill when she turned 18 and gained cotrol ofher own money and her own life. I think when she no longer was under her parents supervision she didn't have the right support group around to help her make the transisition to independent adulthood.

http://whatculture.com/news/amanda-bynes-why-her-breakdown-should-force-us-to-look-at-ourselves.php

Amanda Bynes’ recent public breakdown has generated a strange response, but not an especially surprising one. We have, after all, seen it many times before.

If an ordinary person suffered an apparent mental breakdown like Amanda Bynes has in recent weeks, the overriding response from other people would be sympathy and concern. With Bynes, however, the reaction has largely been ridicule and laughter.

A quick search for ‘Amanda Bynes’ on Twitter reveals a long list of people, all lining up to take shots at her, to mock her, to ridicule her, to insult her.

Stop and take a second to really think about that. A human being is being mocked for suffering what we can only assume are actual, genuine and serious mental health problems.

It is another chapter in a story that seems all too common in Hollywood. A successful child star grows up, finds the transition to adulthood difficult, has a public meltdown and is hounded and ridiculed by the tabloid press.

The cliche is that the media build stars up to knock them down again and while it is a cliche, it may also be the harsh reality of the situation. Certainly, Amanda Bynes’ breakdown, like Lindsay Lohan’s in recent years, sells magazines, sells newspapers and generates web traffic. You are reading an article about Bynes right now.

While the tabloid press can certainly be accused of shamelessly profiting from such cases and can perhaps be blamed for exacerbating the problems, the reaction also says something about society as a whole. About all of us.

It seems we cannnot get enough of seeing rich, attractive, successful people – especially former child stars and especially women – fly off the rails. Everyone loves a train wreck.

There could be a whole range of psychological explanations for such a response. Perhaps we view child stars as spoiled brats, who have had everything handed to them, so we struggle to empathise when they have a problem. Maybe we struggle to see Hollywood superstars as actual people, with real feelings and emotions.

Or could it be that we are all cynics and we don’t really believe they have problems at all? After all, they act for a living, so why couldn’t they act out a breakdown publicly to generate attention? It works for them and it isn’t completely beyond the confines of reality.

Whatever the reason, the simple fact is, mental health problems do not discriminate based on a person’s income. It is said that as many as one in five people will experience mental illness in their lifetime and many celebrities have suffered greatly in the past.

Okay, so she might just be faking it for attention, but is that the most likely explanation here? Probably not. It is quite likely that Amanda Bynes has serious psychological issues and needs help.

The Hollywood machine has a habit of churning out young actresses who experience serious issues in later life. Pushy parents, constant media attention, being given too much too soon, the intense objectification that Hollywood brings and even sex abuse rings have been blamed for this in the past.

In Bynes’ case, it seems quite telling that her breakdown has centred around her appearance and the appearance of others. She told Rihanna she wasn’t pretty enough. She has started a crusade against magazines that publish less-than-flattering images of her. She accused a policeman of sexual assault and told him he wasn’t attractive enough to get intimate with her. Everything is about beauty or perceptions of beauty.

And why wouldn’t it centre around these ideas of beauty? Her entire career centred around her appearance and she has been dissected and objectified from a young age. Her beauty as a teenager was her biggest commodity and getting attention on that basis is all she has known.

As shallow as that may seem to some, there are a variety of mental illnesses which centre on these same ideas – perceptions of beauty and the link between physical appearance and self-worth. These problems can be extremely serious, often leading to depression and substance abuse, especially with women.

Regardless of the problems she has or the causes of those problems, Amanda Bynes’ breakdown may have placed her under the microscope once again, but it should also place the tabloid media and all of us there too.

When Britney Spears suffered a meltdown several years ago, one of the most memorable things to come out of the entire episode was the ‘Leave Britney Alone!’ youtube video, which went viral. As funny and dramatic as that video was, something about it was largerly overlooked.

The central message of the video absolutely right. Britney should have been left alone to cope with her issues away from press intrusion and away from public ridicule. Shouldn’t Amanda Bynes be afforded the same luxury?

That way, if she has serious problems, she gets the privacy to deal with them. In the unlikely event that she is faking her issues to seek attention, this would also deny her the attention she craves. It is a win-win situation for everyone.

Well, it would be, if only we didn’t enjoy watching train wrecks so much.

Amanda Bynes' Bong-Tossing Case to Be Dismissed
Jan 11, 2014
by Natalie Abrams

Amanda Bynes got some good news on Friday, with a judge ruling that the bong-tossing case against the actress will be dismissed if she does not get into any more trouble over the next six months, according to The Associated Press.

In May, Bynes was arrested after police said she threw a bong out her New York apartment window and was seen smoking a joint in the complex lobby. She was charged with reckless endangerment and marijuana possession.

Bynes was later placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold in July after she lit a fire in a driveway in California. She was released from rehab earlier this month.

As part of her agreement with the judge, Bynes must attend counseling sessions twice a week for six months. If she is arrested, the deal will be revoked.

Seeing these Amanda Bynes photos may make you want to bust out a slow clap.

The once troubled actress was looking healthy and happy in photos posted to her Twitter page from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising Debut Runway Show, an event that's done each year for the aspiring student designers to formally debut their clothes in front of an audience.

Bynes flashed a big smile while wearing a stylish outfit and strutting her wavy blond locks in multiple snapshots, including one with her parents Rick and Lynn.

The 27-year-old Hairspray star successfully finished her first quarter at FIDM's Orange County campus Wednesday. "She's a great student who always participated and really cared about her classes," a source exclusively told E! News. "She really fit in and loves her school."

In fact, she plans to take more classes this April. "If she was offered an acting job anytime soon," the source says, "she may not take it because she's so focused on school."

Although Bynes went on a social media hiatus for a while, she did update her Twitter followers on March 1, writing, "Hi everyone! I'm busy studying at @fidm but I want to say I love you to my fans!" She also shared a "new sketch" that is believed to be a self-portrait.

"Amanda's really talented at what she does so the picture is the real deal," the source said. "She's only just beginning."

Amanda Bynes (http://www.lipstickalley.com/showthread.php?t=780247) is headed for another conservatorship, but we're told it almost certainly will not be at the hands of her parents. Rather, we've learned Amanda's doctors are planning to get the type of conservatorship that can keep her confined and medicated for up to 1 year.

Sources familiar with Amanda's treatment tell TMZ ... the plan is to get an LPS Hold -- something a judge will grant at the behest of doctors but only if the patient is "gravely disabled as a result of a mental disorder or impairment by chronic alcoholism."

The LPS Hold allows doctors to confine Amanda -- at either the hospital or another secure facility -- and administer meds against her will.

The LPS Hold is far more stringent than what her parents could get. The parents could not legally force meds on Amanda nor could they effectively restrain her. We're told Amanda literally hates her parents now after they tricked her into coming to the mental hospital.

You may recall ... doctors got an LPS Hold on Amanda a little more than a year ago after she went off the rails ... ending with lighting a driveway on fire and dousing her dog with gasoline. That LPS Hold expired last month.

Our sources say the doctors will likely ask a judge for a new LPS Hold within a week ... after Amanda is fully diagnosed.
