Still lots of fun to be had with the girls in this sixth season. The Bardwell Caper was always a favorite.
I started watching the DVD set this week and immediately anticipated at least one of the lost music cues. It came as no surprise that The Beatles "Yesterday " song would be lost. That probably would have cost a huge sum.Though I wished they would have at least attempted to create a generic tune that was more in the mood of the Beatles song.The jangly upbeat guitar pop instrumental doesnt quite match with the bittersweet nostalgic moment of the girls looking back at the good times from previous seasons before they leave the cellar apartment for the last time.
Ive only watched about a disc and a half of episodes but a few other missing music cues pop up in the first few episodes. The arrival to California ,if memory serves me, originally started with a female singing an almost laid back version of Hooray for Hollywood. I remember this because of the line "Come on and try your luck You could be Donald Duck" always stuck out to me because of my love for the Duck.
In the Troy Donahue episode ,Laverne starts to sing "There's a Summer Place"( the theme from A Summer Place that TD was in) before Shirley tells her to can the music. This one sung line of Laverne's has been covered by generic music.
I think I may know why a bit is missing from the Malibu Mansion episode. the episode cuts just as the leather clad gang arrives. In the cut,The gang introduces themselves each with a nickname that features the name "Tide" .Richard Moll plays the lead as High Tide. Funny, he shows up in a future episode as Louis Armstrong ,handcuffed to Shirley. The girls make mention of the Angora Debs and I think ask if this gang has their own theme song to which they respond to by singing "Ebb tide" by Frank Sinatra. Guess that song was another costly item. This scene ended after Carmine and Sunny show up,tout their strength(carmine a former boxer,sonny falls out of buildings for fun) and both are punched in the stomach by the gang with no reaction. the gang leaves and the guys collapse in pain.Why so much was cut when the could probably have cut around the song is odd.
I was curious to see if the "Love Love Love " song featuring Eric Idle was included.Thankfully it was. But,after the girls indulge in some brownies ,they hit the skins and guitar, and the episode cuts before they start singing a stoned rendition of the Stones "(I Cant get no) satisfaction".Still surprised that this episode with all its drug references ever was made in the first place.
A plus side to the unfortunate missing music is there are lots of bits I have never seen before because I've only ever watched versions edited for reruns. Good stuff.

Didn't see this dvd in the stores yet so I may have to order it. Can't wait to see the Troy Donahue episode again.

*sigh* sounds like CBS is as bad as ever, and I thought they picked up a bit with the last L&S set. I knew the Beatles song was nigh impossible to get, but it's still a bummer, and it sounds like the Milwaukee montage was mishandled with the replacement music.

I will look for L&S episodes elsewhere...did N@N or TVL show uncut episodes? I kind of remember one of them having scenes I didn't see in syndie versions.

Yeah, would seem foolish to unload those old VHS tapes. The scene where the Tide motorcycle gang invaded the girls' beach party in the Malibu Mansion ep. was too much to edit out. And it was the highlight of that ep. too.

Where do the episodes come from? Are they complete?

Anything's better than what CBS does...they can go to hell with their constant fear of anything resembling music. And pretending that Paramount Television doesn't exist at the end of each show.

Come to think of it, unless I am mistaken, it seems the best classic sitcom sets from CBS are for the shows that WERE AIRED ON CBS. It's when they do the other network's programs that things get really shoddy. Wonder if they're jealous that the Tiffany Network didn't have the hit(s) and take it out on the DVD releases???? Then again that's the conspiracy theorist in me talking.
