View Full Version : ABC tried but the House in season 8 just looks sad
TVFactFan 05-19-2013, 10:41 PM It's so obvious the show was on a new network and studio because the house looked more like a spoof of the original house we were used to all those previous seasons.
The Boys room is completely different and doesn't look the same
The color of the house period is strange looking
The living room looks like a musuem and not a actual home someone lives in lol
What a Props Disaster:lol:
mets82 05-19-2013, 11:21 PM Feel the same way. I didnt even think it was there room. Btw, did you check out Willis? What's with the bowtie and hairdo?

Willis looked ridiculous in that bowtie when he was going off to college. In fact, his entire outfit in that scene was so cheezy. I remember he had on some multi-colored vest with '86 on it and his hair ..... YUCK! Don't even get me started on that silly ass hair style he had going. He would have looked better bald.
And yes, the living room did look like a museum.
BigManMike 05-20-2013, 03:02 PM Was there a reason they had to change the set when it moved to ABC? It was strange how they changed it. The living room was painted a dark pink when it had been yellow on NBC. The staircase was now carpeted, and the big marble bannister was now replaced with a smaller bannister. That really seemed strange. And also the boys' bedroom was painted green and the bunk bed was gone. I didn't even recognize it at first when I saw Arnold waking up in one of last night's episodes until someone walked in the door then I saw what they had done.

LOL, Exactly they must have left the Bunk Bed in the NBC storage room:lol:

I liked the house in the last season. The production company that produced DS, FOL and SS gave all three of the shows makeovers that year of 1985.

You mean that silly candy shop on FOL?
*ROGER* 05-20-2013, 11:18 PM You mean that silly candy shop on FOL?
The dumb store called "Over Our Heads" where they sold trinkets, knick-knacks and candy. That place was so god awful ugly! And cheezy!
ThomasE 05-21-2013, 09:30 AM You mean that silly candy shop on FOL?
Yeah. That shop. I actually liked the shop. It was modern and contemporary. I just felt like I was losing the interest by that season. Maybe it was because the girls were getting older. It was just a thing if getting with the times at that time. Silver Spoons had a make over with the living room and Kate got rid of the train set. All three shows got set overhauls and updated theme songs. As I said before, 1985 was a key year for change.

I didnt mind the place. You have to remember it was 1985.

Never knew that about the train on Silver Spoons

And SS also got rid of the arcades (which by then were looking outdated) too.

It was a great year...I was born in 85'!!!
All kidding aside, I hated the DS house makeover/renovation. I missed the old set. I kept thinking: "This is supposed to be an improvement?!"
But again, all of these shows are products of their time. It's like a visual/cultural time capsule of what was current, trendy, stylish, etc. It almost makes me wonder what we'll look back on and cringe about in a few years from now about today's shows.

Mace Dolex 08-14-2013, 02:58 PM I admit the change was bit jarring but for me it felt like going back to school and seeing friends grown up espcially Willis with his gery curl and the updated sets was like ABC saying "we're hip too, look at us we've gone MTV too".
Oh and in case some of you didn't know the last season of DS was on ABC and not NBC.

Willis had out grown the show by that time anyway so it made sense that he was away in college lol
The set was a Musuem LOL

While I liked the set during the last season, I will agree that it did look like a museum...but the old set did too. LOL.
Mace Dolex 10-11-2013, 04:50 PM Good thing I got me a digital converter box so I can get AntennaTV and right on time too since I preferred the later seasons 5-8, as a warm up I watched the Sam getting kidnapped episode on YouTube and was cringing at the laugh track being used for the serious dramatic moments.
robyrob 10-11-2013, 05:26 PM i don't know why they didn't just have them move into a new apartment for the final season - I mean if he was getting married to whats-her-face, it only stands to reason that she would want them to move into a place that they had picked out together with more room for her little "angel" Sam, or she would have wanted to totally redecorate the place after they got married.
Mace Dolex 10-11-2013, 05:54 PM Don't know if it was mentioned but the season 8 opener has the Drummond apartment being redecorated by Maggie's wishes which is a sneaky and quick explanation for the show being switched from NBC to ABC.
