View Full Version : Would Saved By The Bell: The College Years have been better if...
The entire original cast was in it (i.e. Lisa and Jessie and even Mr. Belding)?

MacLeaper 05-21-2013, 12:13 PM Lisa and Mr. Belding both made guest appearances on the show. The only one who didn't show up was Jessie. But it wouldn't really make much sense for Mr. Belding to follow the gang to college (though that hasn't stopped the show from doing other things that didn't really make sense before- lol). Mr. Belding did follow 8th. graders from their school JFK Junior High in Indiana to Bayside High School in Palisades, CA after all. He could have done a Mr. Feeny thing (like on "Boy Meets World") and stalk the students to somehow wind up as a teacher or something at California University.
But as far as "Saved By the Bell: The College Years" goes, I love it! Of course, I love all of SBTB and the various series. It would have been nice to see Lisa and Jessie on there along with Mr. Belding, I suppose- but I don't think the people playing those roles were interested (as to Lisa and Jessie, that is) and as I just said, it didn't really make sense to have Mr. Belding there.
This was more realistic in any case as many times students do not all wind up at the same college, even though they've been best friends in high school. People have different interests and desires and they have to go to the best school to meet their educational goals.
In any case, I like the show as it is.:)

I was fine with the cast the way it was. I didn't like the way Lisa's character changed from the first two seasons to the last two. She was way too sassy and aggressive, IMO, and was fine the way she was early on.
I didn't miss Jessie at all, either. Had it been those two who missed that handful of episodes instead of Jessie and Kelly, I'd have been fine with that. But Kelly's presence would have rendered Tori unnecessary and the show would have had to go in another direction.
EccentricGenius 01-25-2016, 06:19 PM As much as I hate to admit it, I think "SBTB: The College Years" would've been better as a solo series for Dustin Diamond. The premise would've featured Screech being assigned (by accident, of course) to an all-female dormitory at "Cal U" (aka the fictitious California University); due to this unfortunate(?) snafu, he'd end up sharing a room with two gorgeous female roommates (one Caucasian, the other African-American).
mets82 01-25-2016, 07:03 PM The show would have been fine if it was longer. 13 episodes isnt a long time to gauge a show.
Caramel Caterpillar 01-25-2016, 07:04 PM I was OK with it the way it was.
It's similar to the "Torrie" episodes; as long as you have a good number of the original SBTB characters, it is tolerable. In those episodes I think it was Zack, Slater, Screech, Torrie and Lisa, so Jessie and Kelly were missing. While Jessie and Kelly are always missed, Lisa was at least still there and Torrie, being kind of a new character, added enough interest to for the most part make me OK with Jessie and Kelly not being present. But that was only for a short while. I don't know if I would have wanted to watch more than 10 episodes without either Kelly or Jessie. It would start to get weird.
But if it was just Zack, or just Zack and Slater, it's not quite as enjoyable. That's why I was happy when Screech and Kelly showed up in the College Years. I guess as you have Zack, Slater, Screech and at least 2 of the girls it still basically feels like Saved by the Bell should.
EDIT:
Actually, now that I thought a bit more about it, I missed Lisa. Jessie I miss less when she's gone because she can be pretty intense and neurotic, but I also feel a certain loyalty toward her character as a fan so I always welcome her presence. That said, it's pretty unlikely that all 6 of them would end up at the same college. And Screech pulled some strings to get Kelly in as a roommate? Do you realize how much red tape he'd have to go through to make that happen in a real life dorm?
