The school district in my town is rather unusual. Our junior high houses 7th, 8th, and 9th graders, while our high school houses 10-12 graders. It has been this way for nearly 30 years and for the first time, the district is seriously considering adding on to the high school and moving the freshmen there. I'm just curious as to how many of you attended a four year high school, or had this setup.

I attended a 4 year, 9th through 12th. In my area that's still the norm, and there's been discussion of moving the 9th graders out -- the opposite of what your district is considering...!

When I was in Junior High it was 7-9, when I became a Senior they brought the 9th grade over. The halls became super crowded.

because the number of students was growing so rapidly in my area both my junior high and high school changed while I was there; when i started my junior high was grade 7,8,9 and at some point while I was there it changed from grades 7 to 10 to 8,9 and 10. It is now a full high school literally twice the size with grades 8 to 12. My high school was originally grades 9 to 12 but expanded to 8 to 12 and they've rebuilt and added on to it a couple of times since i was there.

I went to a 4 year high school, but it changed to a 3 year high school (10-12) several years ago. Freshman classes are always huge.

Wow, that's a lot of changes. Prior to our junior high being 7-9, there were two high schools side by side (one housed 9-10 and the other 11-12). In the 80s however, our population went down and 9th grade was moved back to the junior high, while 10th grade was moved to the 11-12 high school. The 9-10 high school was turned into an intermediate school for grades 4-6.

I attended a 4 year high school in the 60's. The school is still a 4 year school.

I did go to a 4yr high school. But where I live now, they do 7-9 middle school and 10-12 high schools. But they're thinking of changing that to 6-8 and 9-12... Building a new high school too because the two existing HSes we have here are crowded. Not sure how that's gonna help, but we'll see, I guess. lol

I went to a four year high school 9-12th grade. The middle school was 6-8th grade.

Now it's very different, they have an intermediate school 5-6. A middle school 7-8. A 9th grade school [ceneter] and a high school 10-12th. I think that's way too many changes.

That is a lot of transitioning. I've heard that many school districts are even eliminating middle schools and going back to K-8, so that students only have to transition once.

I moved a lot as a child. I attended K-6th in elementary school. Although for part of 6th grade I did attend a middle school. My 7th grade year, the school I was attending at the time moved the 6th grade to the (junior high) which is now middle school, yet at another school I attended the 6th grade was already in the middle school and had been for years. But for me high school was always 9th-12th.

I went to a 4-year (9th - 12th grade) high school. My brother-in-law grew up in such a tiny town that he went to the same school from K through 12!!

My high school was 9th-12th grades. Now, they have a "freshman academy" separate from the high school, but on the same campus.

I currently teach at a very large PreK-8th grade performing arts school. My district closed several elementary schools last year and opened two PreK-8 schools in their places as a "pilot" because their plan is to reorganize all the schools into this model. I'm honestly not a fan of it. I miss my old school with less than 200 students, but I guess that costs too much money nowadays. :(

the weird thing is, because of all the changes, I actually went to the junior high from grades 7 to 10, and high school for only grades 11 and 12

I went to a 4 year high school, Cocoa High, and as far as I know it's still a 4 year. The school I work for is a Jr/Sr High School grades 7-12, but when I was going to school, I remember it was just a middle school.

I also went to a 4 year high school. Grade School was k thru 8 and high school was grades 9 thru 12. About 10 or so years ago they added a middle school which has grades 6 thru 8. But that was added long after I got out of school.
