I was both horrified and amused when we got the following e-mail at work today:-

THE HONESTY BOX IS £2 DOWN. CAN ANYONE WHO HAS NOT PAID PLEASE CONTACT RECEPTION.

For anyone not in the know, an honesty box contains bags of sweets (chocolate peanuts and what have you), relying on the honesty of people to put the £1 in, rather like the old British tradition of leaving newspapers outside a shop, knowing that only a sicko would steal them.

Anyway, I was horrified that someone would stoop so low, but amused by the thought of Stack suggesting that the box "had been the victim of foul play". This is particularly pertinent as a packet of biscuits, brought in by a colleague of mine on her birthday, were half-inched a few weeks previously.

Was it the same person who rendered the honesty box dishonest? I suspect it may remain an unsolved mystery...

Would appreciate other real life Robert Stack moments - thanks.

I actually do know someone who disappeared. I attended kindergarten through high school with him. He ended up becoming a pilot and was employed by a mining company after graduating college. He, the captain, and the plane he was co-piloting all disappeared over South America five years ago and not a trace of them has ever been found:

I sent an e-mail to Charley Project once about getting him on there, but never heard back. I'm sure she gets a ton of mail, though--it could've just slipped through.
