View Full Version : Is it me or did Mr. Drummond act like he didn't care sam was missing? lol
TVFactFan 05-13-2013, 10:09 PM The entire episode Mr. Drummond seemed like he could care that Sam was missing and showed no emotion. Maggie was crying and Mr. Drummond showed no concern at all.
Very Odd Mr. Drummond Moment

For real, maybe Mr. D. was just trying to be calm for Maggie's sake. BUT if it was Arnold who was missing, Mr. D. would be totally frantic and he would have blood hounds and helicopters searching for Arnold!
ThomasE 05-14-2013, 12:42 PM He cared. He remained calm and the voice of reason throughout the story.

You sure? because he wasn't even mad at pearl for setting a place for Sam:lol:

He was calm. He didn't need to jump all over her. As the leader in the household, he had to exercise a foundation of stability. He did great.

LOL. I'm glad it made you laugh. Having to start a new week at work can suck. I feel where you are coming from. When I'm working, I have to do 12 hours a day. Can you imagine doing that 6 days a week? Besides, I enjoy making people laugh.
xBazingaDudex 05-16-2013, 07:51 AM the actress who played maggie on this sam is missing episode ehhh. her acting was horrible in that episode. She did a bad job at acting sad and hurt and all that lol. She would always burst into this bad acting sadness/cry

Keep in mind that was her first episode so she probably had to keep doing the character until she was comfortable
WalterTheDrinker 06-04-2013, 10:39 AM He was probably thrilled that Sam was kidnapped. Wouldn't you be? I'm surprised Drummond wasn't behind the whole thing.

That probably wasn't the best episode to introduce the new Maggie since she had such a big part in it and the appearance of a new Maggie was VERY noticeable.
I think Mr. D, like others have said was just being calm for Maggie and the family. It was Mr. D after all who went to see the extortionist, went to rescue Sam, went on the news, etc.

In all honesty, I don't think that this was her first episode. I think her first episode was when Maggie and Phillip could not find time for one another and it aired after the "Sam's Missing" episode. I think for production flow, the "Love on the run" ep was filmed first so Ms. Mobley probably did this episode first.

I actually missed that one this run on Antenna. I'll have to catch it next time around.
It's always so difficult to replace a well-loved character on a show with another actor, especially since Dixie Carter was awesome as Maggie. I like how they included a wedding shot of Mr. Drummond and the new Mrs. Drummond in the credits though.

I'm not so sure Dixie Carter was "well-loved" as Maggie, considering that the show tanked in the ratings and got canned by NBC.

I thought she did a great job as Maggie. I liked her accent lol. But is that why they had to replace her or was it because of Designing Women?

No it was for a show called crazy like a fox the season before designing women

I think ThomasE was talking about the filming order?

YES! EXACTLY!
PrettyinPink55 06-12-2013, 09:50 PM We've clearly got some Sam haters here!!

I remember one of my friends dads commenting on how frail and thin the actress looked that you could see the veins on her neck.

Yeah Dixie Carter was a lot of THICKER

Hahaha. Isn't it funny how that stuff stays with you all these years later.?
ThomasE 08-25-2013, 12:56 PM I think ThomasE was talking about the filming order?
Yes, I was. Thanks for stating that. One of the local affiliates in Tampa, FL WFTS 28 would air the show in the past and when it came to season eight, they'd begin with the episode when the kids are trying to get their parents to spend more time together.
manetoys 09-11-2013, 01:10 AM Did anyone care that Sam was missing? ;)
ThomasE 09-11-2013, 04:30 AM Did anyone care that Sam was missing? ;)
Uh, yeah? His own mother, step siblings, step father and his father. LOL.
Mace Dolex 12-30-2013, 03:34 PM The one thing that irritates me is the careless use of the laugh track during the most tense scenes especially when Sam is with other guy and his family, here we are with this kid who has been abducted and we're cracking jokes here people.
On a side note I remember back when TV Guides used to have artwork ads for their season openers that the one used for this episode had artwork of Arnold and Drummond with very scary haunting faces.
Nighthawk76 12-30-2013, 04:42 PM When rewatching this episode about two weeks ago I paid attention to Mr. Drummond's actions and he seemed to be very concerned about Sam's safety.
ThomasE 12-30-2013, 04:44 PM Absolutely!!! He was wise and level headed and because of that in part, he was able to execute accordingly in the mission to get Sam back.

First of all, you're dead right about the laugh track mismanagement. Other shows have done it, too, including All in the Family's (terrible) later seasons.
Second of all, I remember that TV Guide ad!

Yeah and I don't think he was out of hand when he was about to punch out the homeless guy in the alley thinking it was the kidnapper.
WalterTheDrinker 01-07-2014, 03:07 PM A punch from Drummond probably felt like getting hit in the face by a flying tissue box.

Hey hey don't be knocking Drummond down he might still pack a punch after all he was in the Korean war as evidenced in an earlier episode when his supposed Korean son comes looking for him.

That just means he got laid a lot in Korea.
GARFIELDKOOL 06-28-2014, 11:19 PM Mr. Drummond did care that Sam was missing, but Maggie (Dixie Carter) didn't care too ****s for Arnold. Mr. Drummond kissed the first Maggie's ass and she didn't care about Drummond's other's kids. At least that's the way I viewed it.

I find it funny that weirdos in New York City were always trying to prey on Phillip Drummond's children. I mean, we had the local bicycle shop owner being revealed to be a pedophile and some deranged hitchhiker picker-upper trying to rape his daughter in the darkroom of his apartment.
The entire episode Mr. Drummond seemed like he could care that Sam was missing and showed no emotion. Maggie was crying and Mr. Drummond showed no concern at all.
Very Odd Mr. Drummond Moment
Where was Sam's real father, Wes in all of this!? I mean, Wes was a celebrity, being a country music performer. So wouldn't the fact that his son got kidnapped get extra attention?
the actress who played maggie on this sam is missing episode ehhh. her acting was horrible in that episode. She did a bad job at acting sad and hurt and all that lol. She would always burst into this bad acting sadness/cry
The whole time, you can't help but wonder how Dixie Carter would've handled (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077003/board/flat/234785010?p=1) such a situation. Some of the comments that I read that Dixie's Maggie acted like she could've cared less in the episode where Arnold and Kimberly were kidnapped, by Bill, while hitchhiking.
