DISTINCTIVE NEW FAMILY COMEDIES, ACTION-DRIVEN NEW DRAMAS AND QUALITY RETURNING SERIES HIGHLIGHT DIVERSE AND BALANCED 2013-14 NBC PRIMETIME SCHEDULE Three New Comedies Anchor Thursday Lineup, With Sean P. Hayes and Michael J. Fox Returning to Their Sitcom Roots at NBC
Coming Off Its Stellar Fourth Season, 'The Voice' Returns on Monday, Tuesday
Riveting Drama 'The Blacklist' Earns Coveted Monday Lead-Out Timeslot From 'The Voice'
'NBC Sunday Night Football' Ready to Once Again Rock Ratings with Powerhouse Pigskin Schedule
NBC Using Promotional Power of Winter Olympics to Launch Four New Series, Including Jason Katims' Comedy 'About a Boy' and J.J. Abrams' Drama 'Believe'
NEW YORK CITY - May 12, 2013 - NBC has announced a new lineup of primetime shows for the 2013-14 season that provide a winning combination of popular returning series, fresh new comedies, compelling new dramas and the latest season of "The Voice," the top reality program on television.
Highlights of the year-round schedule - which will be bolstered in February on the heels of the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia - include "Believe," a new drama from J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron; the return of three-time Emmy winner James Spader in action thriller "The Blacklist"; and a comedy lineup that includes new series from "Friday Night Lights" and "Parenthood" executive producer Jason Katims, Will Ferrell, Bill Lawrence, Sean P. Hayes, and a return to NBC of one of the biggest TV stars of any generation, Michael J. Fox.
The new comedy additions are "Welcome to the Family," "Sean Saves the World," and "The Michael J. Fox Show" as well as midseason comedies "The Family Guide," and "About A Boy."
The new dramas are "The Blacklist," "Ironside," and "Dracula," plus mid-season dramas "Believe," "Crisis" and "Crossbones."
NBC has also ordered dramas "Chicago PD" and "The Night Shift" and comedy "Undateable" as unscheduled midseason series.
New alternative series premiering during the 2013-14 season include "The Million Second Quiz" and "American Dream Builders." Returning to the schedule are "The Biggest Loser" and "The Sing-Off." "Food Fighters" has been ordered as an unscheduled midseason show.
Scripted series returning include "Grimm," "Parenthood," "Law & Order: SVU," "Revolution," "Chicago Fire," "Parks and Recreation" and "Community."
Pick-up decisions on "Celebrity Apprentice" and "Hannibal" are still to be made in the next few weeks.
"The Voice" will kick off its fifth season in September on Mondays (8-10 pm. ET). The current cycle of "The Voice" has been primetime's #1 show of the week on the Big Four networks, excluding sports, for four of six weeks thus far in adults 18-49.
The announcements were made by Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, NBC Entertainment.
"The overriding strategy this year was to develop enough strong comedies and dramas to take advantage of the promotional heft of the Winter Olympics and devise two schedules for the upcoming season: one for fall and a slightly different one for midseason. I'm pleased to say that our development groups - headed by Jennifer Salke (scripted) and Paul Telegdy (alternative/reality) - really delivered," Greenblatt said. "This is the most robust and highest-testing slate of new shows we have had in years."
Greenblatt continued, "And aside from our Olympics planning, we also wanted to create better flow and compatibility on each night, and deploy our strongest lead-in ('The Voice') to maximum effect.
"Sunday in the fall remains the night to beat with 'Sunday Night Football.' After football and the Olympics are over, we will launch two classy, attention-getting dramas in February: 'Believe' from J.J. Abrams, and 'Crisis' starring Dermot Mulroney and Gillian Anderson. We think it's time for big dramas again on Sunday nights. And leading into these dramas at 8 p.m. will be an exciting home renovation competition hosted by Nate Berkus called 'American Dream Builders.'
"Monday and Tuesday will again dominate with 'The Voice.' Our highly anticipated new James Spader drama 'The Blacklist' deserves to go into the 10 p.m. slot on Monday, and we're moving 'Chicago Fire,' a show we really believe in, to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays to benefit from 'The Voice' lead-in that will be at 9 p.m. in the fall.
"After the Olympics, however, 'The Voice' moves back to 8 p.m. on Tuesday so that we can launch two of our strongest new family comedies in the 9 p.m. hour: 'About a Boy' and 'The Family Guide.' Landing more comedy on the schedule is important and using 'The Voice' as a lead-in after the Olympics is the strongest way to do that.
"I believe we'll have a more compatible Wednesday line-up with three dramas: 'Revolution,' 'Law & Order: SVU' and 'Ironside,' starring Blair Underwood, which is another new show we've very high on.
"Thursday will have a family theme, starting with a two-hour comedy block from 8-10 p.m. anchored by strong stars: Amy Poehler in 'Parks and Recreation,' Mike O'Malley in 'Welcome to the Family,' Sean Hayes in 'Sean Saves the World' and the new 'Michael J. Fox Show.' Then at 10 p.m. 'Parenthood' moves in to top off the night with what I know is the best family drama on television.
"On Fridays, anchored by 'Grimm' at 9 p.m., we will have a more fun genre night with the limited-series 'Dracula,' starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers at 10 p.m. In the spring, 'Crossbones' - with John Malkovich as the infamous pirate Blackbeard - replaces 'Dracula,'" said Greenblatt.
Jordan Wertlieb, President of Hearst Television and Chair of the NBC Affiliate Board, commented, "This schedule is another example of NBC's continued commitment to restoring prime time to its traditional leadership position. I am sure the investment in partnering with some of the most recognizable names in television will be obvious and exciting to the affiliates."
Clips from the new NBC shows are available now at http://nbc.epk.tv/. The embeddable trailer for "The Blacklist" is now available at http://www.nbc.com/upcoming-shows/press additional trailers will be available Monday, May 13 at 11 a.m. ET.
2013-14 NEW SERIES DESCRIPTIONS
New Comedies
"ABOUT A BOY"
Based on the best-selling Nick Hornby ("High Fidelity," "An Education") novel, writer Jason Katims ("Friday Night Lights," "Parenthood") and director Jon Favreau ("Iron Man," "Revolution") present a different kind of coming-of-age story. Will Freeman (David Walton, "Bent," "Perfect Couples") lives a charmed existence as the ultimate man-child. After writing a hit song, he was granted a life of free time, free love and freedom from financial woes. He's single, unemployed and loving it. So imagine his surprise when Fiona (Minnie Driver, "Good Will Hunting," "Barney's Version"), a needy single mom and her oddly charming 11-year-old son, Marcus (Benjamin Stockham, "1600 Penn"), move in next door and disrupt his perfect world. When Marcus begins dropping by his home unannounced, Will's not so sure about being a kid's new best friend, until, of course, Will discovers that women find single dads irresistible. That changes everything and a deal is struck: Marcus will pretend to be Will's son and, in return, Marcus is allowed to chill at Will's house. Before he realizes it, Will starts to enjoy the visits and even finds himself looking out for the kid. In fact, this newfound friendship may very well teach him a thing or two that he never imagined possible - about himself and caring for others. Writer Jason Katims, director Jon Favreau, Tim Bevan ("Les Misérables," "About a Boy"), Eric Fellner ("Les Misérables," "About a Boy"), Liza Chasin ("Les Misérables," "About a Boy"), Robert De Niro ("About a Boy," "Meet the Parents") and Jane Rosenthal ("About a Boy," "Meet the Parents") serve as executive producers. "About a Boy" is a production of Universal Television, Working Title Television, True Jack Productions and Tribeca Productions.

"THE FAMILY GUIDE"
It's not every family that's brought closer together by divorce, but then again, the Fishers aren't exactly typical. Take Mel Fisher (J.K. Simmons, "The Closer," "Law & Order"), for example. Whether it's chopping down trees, showing his daughter how to drive or playing football with his son, he's never let the fact that he's blind slow him down. Then there's Joyce Fisher (Parker Posey, "Louie," "For Your Consideration"), possibly the only mom in Pasadena to smoke a pipe. For her, divorce is like a second coming of age, a chance to be the teen she never was. Just ask '80s-obsessed teenage daughter Katie (Ava Deluca-Verley, "Southland"), whose clothes Joyce is always borrowing. At the center of all this is Henry (Eli Baker), the Fisher's 11-year old son. Having always been his dad's eyes, ears and wingman, Henry's less than thrilled when Mel shows up with Elvis, a guide dog... which is also how Henry learns about the pending divorce. While reluctant to the changes this dog would bring, it's through the adult Henry's voice-over (Jason Bateman, "Arrested Development") that we find out his parent's split would "allow all of us to finally discover who we needed to be." Writer DJ Nash ("Up All Night," "Guys with Kids"), Jason Bateman and Jim Garavente serve as executive producers. "The Family Guide" is a production of Universal Television and Aggregate Films.

"THE MICHAEL J. FOX SHOW"
Look who's making the news again. One of New York's most beloved news anchors, Mike Henry (Michael J. Fox, "Spin City," "Family Ties"), put his career on hold to spend more time with his family and focus on his health after he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. But five years later, with the kids busy growing up and Mike growing restless, it just might be time for him to get back to work. Having never wanted Mike to leave in the first place, his old boss Harris Green (Wendell Pierce, "The Wire," "Treme") jumped at the chance to get him back on TV. The trick, as it's always been, was to make Mike think it was his idea. Now the plan is in motion and Mike will be back to juggling home, family, and career - just like the old days, but only better. Writer Sam Laybourne ("Cougar Town"), director Will Gluck ("Easy A," "Friends with Benefits") and Fox serve as executive producers. "The Michael J. Fox Show" is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Olive Bridge Entertainment.

"SEAN SAVES THE WORLD"
Sean (Sean P. Hayes, "Will & Grace") is a divorced gay dad who juggles a lot - his successful but demanding career, offbeat employees, pushy mom Lorna (Linda Lavin, "Alice") and weekends with his teenage daughter, Ellie (Sami Isler). So when she moves in full-time, it's a whole new world. Never one to do anything halfway, Sean's intent on being the best dad ever, so he loads up on parenting how-to books and plans Pinterest-worthy family dinners. But it seems his company's new owner has decided Sean and his team should work longer hours, putting a damper on his homemaking plans and throwing a kink in Sean's perfectly constructed work/life balance. Ellie sees this development as a plus. She loves her dad, but he's clearly going overboard. From keeping his boss happy, employees motivated and enduring his mother's tactless "advice" to raising a smart, grounded and healthy kid, it's going to be a growing experience, to say the least. But if anyone can handle it all, it's Sean. Thomas Lennon ("Reno 911"), Lindsay Sloane ("Weeds") and Echo Kellum ("Ben and Kate") also star. Writer Victor Fresco ("Go On," "Mad About You"), director James Burrows ("Friends," "The Big Bang Theory"), Sean P. Hayes ("Hot in Cleveland," "Grimm") and Todd Milliner ("Hot in Cleveland," "Grimm") serve as executive producers. "Sean Saves the World" is a production of Universal Television and Hazy Mills Productions.

"UNDATEABLE"
When confident slacker Danny Beeman (Chris D'Elia, "Whitney," "Glory Daze") takes Justin (comedian Brent Morin) on as a roommate, Danny unwittingly inherits Justin's group of romantically challenged friends. Seeing himself as the ultimate player, Danny decides to teach the crew (who he dubs "The Undateables") everything he knows about "the game of love." For their first lesson, Danny takes the guys to an event hosted by his sister, Leslie (Bianca Kajlich, "Rules of Engagement"), who is a single mom with dating difficulties of her own. At first, Danny's advice seems to pay off big-time: The shy guy talks to a girl, the no-filter dude learns it's never OK to ask a woman when she's due, and his nebbish roommate, Justin, goes home with a mystery woman. It's not until the next day that they figure out it was Leslie. Here's a refreshing comedy about the "do's," "don'ts" and "duhs" of dating. Writer Adam Sztykiel ("Due Date"), Bill Lawrence ("Scrubs," "Cougar Town") and Jeff Ingold serve as executive producers. "Undateable" is a production of Warner Bros. Television and Doozer Productions.

"WELCOME TO THE FAMILY"
Parents Dan Yoder (Mike O'Malley, "Glee," "My Name Is Earl") and wife Karina (Mary McCormack, "In Plain Sight," "The West Wing") find out on the day their daughter Molly (Ella Rae Peck ("Deception," "Gossip Girl") is graduating from high school with an acceptance to college, she announces she pregnant. Across town in East L.A., Junior Hernandez (Joseph Haro, "Glee," "Awkward"), in the middle of his high school valedictorian speech, gets a text from girlfriend Molly that he's going to be a daddy. Expectedly, Junior's parents Miguel (Ricardo Chavira, "Desperate Housewives") and Lisette (Justina Machado, "Six Feet Under," "ER") are also upset, as they now have Caucasians in the family. What follows is a crash course in culture blending as Molly and Junior decide they want to get married and, in doing so, bring together two very different families. The dads have the most difficult time reconciling while the moms take a softer approach to get to know one another. When the parents fully realize that their kids are serious about making a life together, the adults exhale and begin to come to terms with this new blended family and start to understand it will take, humor, love and tolerance to make it all work. Writer Mike Sikowitz ("Rules of Engagement," "Friends") and Jamie Tarses ("Happy Endings, "Franklin & Bash") serve as executive producers. "Welcome to the Family" is a production of Sony Pictures Television and FanFare Productions.

"THE BLACKLIST"
The embeddable trailer for "The Blacklist" is now available at http://www.nbc.com/upcoming-shows/press. For decades, ex-government agent Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader, "The Office," "Boston Legal") has been one of the FBI's Most Wanted fugitives. Brokering shadowy deals for criminals across the globe, Red was known by many as "The Concierge of Crime." Now, he's mysteriously surrendered to the FBI with an explosive offer: He will help catch a long-thought-dead terrorist, Ranko Zamani, under the condition that he speaks only to Elizabeth "Liz" Keen (Megan Boone, "Law & Order: Los Angeles"), an FBI profiler fresh out of Quantico. For Liz, it's going to be one hell of a first day on the job. What follows is a twisting series of events as the race to stop a terrorist begins. What are Red's true intentions? Why has he chosen Liz, a woman with whom he seemingly has no connection? Does Liz have secrets of her own? Zamani is only the first of many on a list that Red has compiled over the years: a "blacklist" of politicians, mobsters, spies and international terrorists. He will help catch them all... with the caveat that Liz continues to work as his partner. Red will teach Liz to think like a criminal and "see the bigger picture"... whether she wants to or not. "The Blacklist" also stars are Diego Klattenhoff ("Homeland"), Harry Lennix ("Man of Steel"), Ryan Eggold ("90210") and Ilfenesh Hadera ("Da Brick"). Writer Jon Bokenkamp ("The Call," "Taking Lives"), John Eisendrath ("Alias"), John Davis ("Gulliver's Travels," "Predator") and John Fox serve as executive producers. The pilot was directed by Joe Carnahan ("The A-Team," "The Grey"). "The Blacklist" is a production of Sony Pictures Television and Davis Entertainment.

"CHICAGO PD"
District 21 of the Chicago Police Department is made up of two distinctly different groups: The uniformed cops who patrol the beat and deal with street crimes, and the intelligence unit, the team that combats the city's major offenses, such as organized crime, drug trafficking and high-profile murders. Leading the intelligence team is Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe), a man not against skirting the law in the pursuit of justice. Demanding and tough, only those who can take the heat survive under Voight's command. Take Det. Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda), for example. Despite a troubled history with his boss, Dawson has ambitions of running the unit. If that means facing off against Voight every day, he'll persevere. From the street cops with dreams of moving up to the elite crew who are already in, "life on the job" is a daily challenge. Dick Wolf, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Peter Jankowski, Danielle Gelber and director Joe Chappelle serve as executive producers. "Chicago PD" is a production of Universal Television and Wolf Films.

"CRISIS"
It's field trip day for the students of Ballard High School, a place that educates the children of Washington, D.C.'s elite, top-of-their-industry CEOs, international diplomats, political power players and even the president's son. But when their bus is ambushed on a secluded rural road, the teenagers and their chaperones are taken, igniting a national crisis. Now with some of the country's most powerful parents at the mercy of one vengeful mastermind, the question arises: How far would you go and what would you become to ensure your child's safe return? With so many parents and dignitaries put into play with nowhere to turn and no one to trust, this unthinkable scenario grows from the select families at risk to an entire nation at stake. From writer/producer Rand Ravich ("Life," "The Astronaut's Wife") and starring Dermot Mulroney ("The Grey," "My Best Friend's Wedding"), Gillian Anderson ("The X-Files," "Hannibal"), Lance Gross ("Tyler Perry's House of Pain," "The Last Fall") and Rachael Taylor ("Transformers," "Red Dog"), "Crisis" is an emotionally charged action thriller. Writer Rand Ravich, Far Shariat ("Life," "I Love You Phillip Morris") and director Phillip Noyce ("Salt," "Patriot Games") serve as executive producers. "Crisis" is from 20th Century Fox Television.

It's 1715 on the Bahamian island of New Providence, the first functioning democracy in the Americas, where the diabolical pirate Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard (John Malkovich, "(In the Line of Fire"), reigns over a rogue nation of thieves, outlaws and miscreant sailors. Part shantytown, part marauder's paradise, this is a place like no other on earth, and a mounting threat to international commerce. To gain control of this fearsome society, Tom Lowe, a highly skilled undercover assassin, is sent to the pirates' haven to take down the brilliant and charismatic Blackbeard. But the closer Lowe gets, the more he finds that his quest is not so simple. Lowe can't help but admire the political ideals of Blackbeard, whose thirst for knowledge knows no bounds. But Lowe is not the only danger to Blackbeard's rule. He is a man with many villainous rivals and one great weakness, a passionately driven woman whom he cannot deny.
Writer Neil Cross, Walter F. Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Ted Gold serve as executive producers. "Crossbones" is a production of Universal Television, Parkes/MacDonald Productions and Georgeville Television.

He and his trusted, handpicked team of specialists - Virgil (Pablo Schreiber, "The Wire" "Lights Out"), Holly (Spencer Grammer, "Greek," "As the World Turns") and Teddy (Neal Bledsoe, "Smash," "Ugly Betty"), as well as his former partner Gary (Brent Sexton, "The Killing") and boss, Det. "THE NIGHT SHIFT"
Welcome to the night shift, where every day is a fight between the heroic efforts of saving lives and the hard truths of running a hospital. At San Antonio Memorial, the men and women who work the wee hours are a special breed, particularly adrenaline junkie T.C. Callahan (Eoin Macken, "Merlin"). After a grueling tour of duty in the Middle East, T.C. is about to learn that his toughest battles will be fought right at home. He and his irreverent team of late-night docs, including Topher (Ken Leung, "Lost") and Drew (Brendan Fehr, "Roswell"), know how to let off steam with the casual prank or two, but when lives are at stake they are all business. Unfortunately, the night shift is now under new management and boss Michael Ragosa (Freddy Rodriguez, "Six Feet Under") is more interested in cutting costs than helping people. But T.C. has never met a rule he couldn't break, or a person he won't stand up to. And it's clear that not even his ex-girlfriend (Jill Flint, "The Good Wife") who is a doctor and now Ragosa's second in charge, has a chance at keeping him in line. If Ragosa wants a war, he'll get one. Writers Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah ("Diary of a Wimpy Kid," "Freaks and Geeks") and Pierre Morel ("Taken") serve as executive producers. "Night Shift" is a production of Sony Pictures Television.

Mr. Television 05-12-2013, 05:52 PM I'm very glad that Chicago Fire is getting the Voice lead-in. I fear for Revolution though. That's a very tough spot. MJF is in a tough timeslot.
mgsports 05-12-2013, 06:28 PM I like everyday but Saturday's.
icecream 05-12-2013, 06:44 PM Michael J. Fox should have anchored an hour. I wasn't expecting Revolution to air at 8:00 but that will benefit The Middle having no comedy competition. James Spader and Sean Hayes in new shows, I'll pass. Why does Blair Underwood keep getting new shows, LAX and The Event were flops with him on NBC.
mtlguy 05-12-2013, 06:53 PM The Blacklist looks amazing. ABC better keep Castle there because anything new will get crushed buy this.
Ex-ABC Jeff Bader did a great job here. I am surprised they have Sean Saves the World has the anchor instead of MJF. Probably a better show.
Monday is solid,
Tuesday starts soft with TBL. A weird choice. It did not do well enough last time around to give it a go there I think. Voice into Chicago Fire will also be solid. They should have left the Voice at 8pm and have Chicago Fire lead into Chicago PD at 10pm.
Wednesday are going to be just ok, with Revolution probably going the Heroes route and crumble in season 2, L&O will be like this season and Ironside can be a ok hit like Chicago Fire was if it is any good.
Thursday will start low rating with P&R and Welcome to the family. The 9pm could be a bit stronger if the 2 new shows are any good. They seem a lot more broader audience than the other comedy were. Parenthood might suffer a bit against Scandal if it stays there. But since it will probably be it's last season, unless again all their new shows are failure, but I think not, it doesn't really matter.
Friday will do good. Grimm will stay how it does now and Dracula could go either way. But great counter programming.
Sunday mid-season, if it stays like this could be doing good. More male skewing shows than what ABC and CBS has, but cable could hurt those.
All considered a pretty good schedule. To my taste, a much stronger schedule than years past. I will probably watch every drama except Revolution and L&O.
They could get closer to 2nd place if not 1st in the fall anyway, if FOX does not do well again.
Mr. Television 05-12-2013, 08:04 PM Michael J.
I'm shocked MJF is not anchoring an hour. His is the only sitcom on NBC that I'm interested in.
robyrob 05-12-2013, 08:51 PM not pleased that Community doesn't get a slot on the schedule, but its a sure thing that at least a couple of the new shows get the swift axe.
"THE FAMILY GUIDE" - hasn't Parker Posey already left the project, have they found someone to replace her yet?
I might check out Crossbones - Malkovich is CRAZY. I will probably check out Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show, but htere is literally nothing else on NBC I will be watching other than Community, SNL and NHL
robyrob 05-12-2013, 08:57 PM - and it is very strange that NBC passed on the John Mulaney project; from everything I read it was one of the strongest pilots and from what I have seen of him on SNL and his standup specials the guy is a genius. I;ve heard rumors that he might replace Seth Meyers on SNL Update, they are probably going to have to give him something to prevent him from going to another network - assuming no-one else picks up his pilot.
mets82 05-12-2013, 09:24 PM First off, tremendous job Pavan for getting all of this information!!
I fear for NBC in general. I mean they cancelled a lot of programming. Hopefully, they can rebound. Dont they have the Winter Olympics in the winter of 2014? If they do, that should help NBC a little bit.
This is my sports side coming out but I would fill NBC primetime with sports if they were able too. Anything that they own or purchase I would put in primetime. Not every night but maybe a night or two. Something to pop the ratings. Your asking a lot when you have 3 new shows, back to back to back on Thursday. What if they fail?
Mr. Television 05-12-2013, 09:26 PM I fear for Revolution though.http://gawab.anvtech.com/6.jpg

http://gawab.anvtech.com/9.jpg
NBC did it no favors by taking it off the air for 4 months. I like the show but I was considering giving up on it. I think this slot is a death slot although there are a lot of those on NBC.
benjamoon 05-12-2013, 09:55 PM I think NBC actually did a really nice job with this schedule considering what they have and their needs. They were smart to not keep most dead weight comedy around. Wednesday and Thursday at 8pm will be tough but that was bound to happen on a network that still has a lot of holes.
I think The Blacklist looks better than Revolution so maybe it can hang on better on Mondays at 10pm.
The Tuesday flow is nice because there could be a halo effect from The Voice at both 8pm & 10pm and they are attempting to strengthen Chicago Fire
SVU & Ironside could be a good match on Wednesdays but Revolution is gonna have a tough time at 8pm
I like the near re-boot of Thursdays (I would have done a complete reboot and put Parks elsewhere)... these new sitcoms can't do worse than the cancelled ones and if they do as bad, try again. No need to keep on very low rated shows with no traction. The more attempts, the better chance of hits. We saw that when ABC relaunched Wednesdays a few years ago.
Glad to see they are finally adding a drama to partner with Grimm
I actually think a lot of their new shows look good. The ones I'm most excited about are: The Blacklist, The Michael J. Fox Show, About a Boy, Crisis, Ironside, and The Night Shift
Mr. Television 05-12-2013, 10:00 PM The one thing I do like about this schedule is the move of Chicago Fire. I just started watching the show in March and it is good. Hopefully the Voice will help make it a bigger hit.
cherryade 05-13-2013, 12:12 AM Looks to me like NBC have decided to start targetting older audiences with bland formulaic CBS-esque programming off the back of the success of Chicago Fire. Shame.
EmoJoe 05-13-2013, 12:31 AM Monday - So NBC is pretty much leaving Revolution out to dry, huh? Anyway, this is probably a good choice. The Blacklist seems to be NBC's attempt at a darker drama in the vein of The Following (but hopefully less terrible). Should do fine after The Voice, and NBC should easily be able to continue to claim Mondays.
Tuesday - This might be NBC's strongest night. Putting Chicago Fire after The Voice is a smart move and could cause that show to do big things. And saving the new sitcoms for The Voice's 2nd cycle is an incredibly smart move after what happened to Go On and The New Normal this year. As a New Girl fan, I worry about what The Voice's move to 9PM means for that show...but from NBC's standpoint, Tuesdays look like a win.
Wednesday - This night, on the other hand, looks like a total disaster. I don't think Revolution will fare any better than the strings of failed comedy blocks NBC has tried in this slot in the past few years, and I see a Smash-esque collapse for it. It's already fading even with the Voice lead-in, how is it going to support itself? SVU was able to decently launch Chicago Fire this year, but it's still an aging series and I don't know how many more lead-outs it has left in it. All in all, this looks like NBC's worst night to me, and I could see it getting ugly.
Thursday - This one could go either way. On one hand, this night needed a major shake-up, and they desperately need some new blood in their comedy slate. On the other hand, I still think trying to launch new comedies against the dominant CBS on this night (especially considering it looks like there's a fairly good chance CBS will expand their comedy block this year) is a mistake, and that they should've maybe tried elsewhere. One thing's for sure - Parks & Rec is going to get murdered at 8:00. But since they're holding off on Community, they didn't really have any other options for that slot. One curious aspect here is that Michael J. Fox is at 9:30 instead of 9:00. Either NBC wasn't as pleased with Fox's show as they expected to be, or they're bracing themselves for a CBS anchor comedy (probably 2.5 Men or maybe even Big Bang?) at 9, and want to protect Fox's show from it.
Friday - It's nice to see NBC actually trying to capitilize off the success of Grimm instead of just leaving it on an island like they've done for the past 2 years. This block should do decently, I think.
Sunday - I highly doubt this block remains the same come mid-season. If it does, then it'll be a disaster.
Overall, it seems like a more sensible fall schedule than last year's bizarre mess. It's still overly reliant on The Voice, but slightly less so...and at least they're trying some stuff.
tlc38tlc38 05-13-2013, 12:10 PM I'll DVR L&O and watch it later.
Looking forward to "Sean Saves the World" and "TMJFS".
"Dracula" looks promising for at least one season.
icecream 05-13-2013, 02:27 PM I wish MJF was paired with Welcome to the Family.
irehtman 05-13-2013, 02:48 PM NBC is struggling to find perfect new comedies in its own network recently. They just cannot find classic imitators like Gimme A Break!, Silver Spoons, The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and Blossom. The #1 classic NBC comedy I liked the most is Hang Time!
tbswatcher 05-13-2013, 04:10 PM On NBC this fall I plan to watch The Biggest Loser, Parenthood and I will check out MJF.

Patty Duke 05-31-2013, 04:59 PM NBC hasn't had good shows in a while. Hey wait, I did like that show that had Kathy Bates as a Lawyer but they canceled it.Oh yeah, it was Harry's Law! Now that was a good show, go figure, they get a hit and BAM. Yeah, I'll pass on NBC.
liane49 06-13-2013, 04:38 PM I think they have decided to start targetting older audiences with bland formulaic programming off the back of the success of Chicago Fire. Shame.
I watch Chicago Fire and Law and Order SUV now that reruns are on because when they were both on Wed. I also liked watching Criminal Minds and CSI Las Vegas.

I can't wait for Parenthood, one of my favorite shows.
icecream 06-24-2013, 12:19 AM Crossing Lines is pretty good! It reminds me of The Following, except better. This should have been on the fall lineup instead of Spader and Underwood's shows.
icecream 06-24-2013, 12:51 PM NBC premiere dates, Michael J. Fox gets an hourlong premiere and will go head-to-head with the Robin Williams premiere.

Are the networks THAT desperate?some people have forgotten that brandon tartikoff tried something like this before at nbc in 1981/82 eccept instead of 80s stars on the combck tral it was done with 50s/60s stars ie james arness angie dickenson the smothers brothers none of those shows lasted a single season the idea did not work then and now i think nbc;s hopes are way too high for sany of these shows esp michael j fox i have always been a big fan but just because he was onme of the kings of tv when i was a kid does not mean that he will catch on with todays kids

I think they need the old stars because they need to build up there audience. They figure they remember the "Glory Days" of NBC with Michael J. Fox so they need somebody to bring eyeballs to the sets.
mr awesome 08-08-2013, 03:12 PM NBC can't afford to completely rely on emerging talent, their in a desperate state they have depend on known talent. Even if Sean Saves the World and MJF bomb it was a safer route to take. Especially if the two shows succeed and bring eyes to other shows on the Peacock Network, goodness knows NBC needs a good shot in the arm.
Will and Grace Fanatic 08-29-2013, 11:00 PM Probably best schedule they have had in years. Hopefully the new shows get pretty good ratings.
mr awesome 08-31-2013, 04:57 PM Welcome to the Family has a pretty similar premise to the 1983 McLean Stephenson starrer Condo. A white family and a Latino family, there kids hook-up and the white daughter gets knocked up, the families irritate each other and hilarity ensues!" Coincidentally, the new show airs Thursdays @ 8:30 while Condo mainly aired Thursdays @ 8 during its brief run.
icecream 09-09-2013, 02:19 PM The Million Second Quiz two week event starts tonight. Will it be the next Millionaire?
icecream 09-10-2013, 06:12 PM I liked The Million Second Quiz, gameplay is good and Ryan Seacrest isn't annoying like he was on Idol. And the Welcome to the Family pilot is available on demand, I watched it and thought it was pretty good. I just hope being paired with the incompatible Parks and Recreation doesn't hurt it, WTTF deserves to have Michael J. Fox as a lead-in.
icecream 09-30-2013, 01:29 PM I wasn't originally going to watch The Blacklist, couldn't stand James Spader on The Practice and stayed away from Boston Legal because of his character. But I ended up trying The Blacklist because of all the good buzz it was getting. It's not bad, worth coming back for. It's still my 3rd choice though in the timeslot after Castle and Hostages.
mr awesome 10-01-2013, 08:14 PM I'm not normally a drama guy, but I do watch The Mentalist and Person of Interest on occasion, and have watched Boston Legal at times when it was on. Spader is terrific, but he usually is IMO. The female lead is cute, and the other supporting actors show potential as well.
icecream 10-04-2013, 10:58 PM The Blacklist has a full-season pickup of 22 episodes.
irehtman 10-16-2013, 06:46 PM All the NBC comedies are pure trash right now, besides Park And Recreation and Community need to end their series by May 2014, they both aired too long.
EmoJoe 10-16-2013, 10:14 PM Or you could just not watch them if you don't like them?

Ironside and Welcome To The Family canned. Chicago PD and Community are the replacements starting in Jan. Repeats and specials will air through the end of the year.
James28 11-04-2013, 02:32 AM All of the NBC comedies (especially Parks & Rec) are doing terribly this season. Should NBC cancel every comedy they have in May of 2014 and become a drama-only network?
EmoJoe 11-04-2013, 03:01 AM I would be very surprised if they did that. The only network that has done that in recent memory (ever?) is The CW...and even they have Whose Line now.
Also, "especially Parks & Rec" is inaccurate. It did a lot better than Sean Saves the World & Michael J. Fox in its most recent airing.
king of comedy 11-04-2013, 07:10 AM The only show I watch on NBC right now is Grim. The dramas are doing better than the comedies.
Cyrax 11-04-2013, 08:20 AM Last year NBC cancelled all of its 7 freshman comedies (though 1 of them never made it to the air and another one was a Summer burn off), only renewed Parks & Recreation and Community. Even though they still have 3 midseason comedies on the bench, I can see the same thing repeated but they wouldn't cancel everything because I'm pretty sure Parks & Recreation is getting a 13-episode final season like 30 Rock did.
EmoJoe 11-04-2013, 12:55 PM They also have 2 midseason comedies set to air after The Voice. Those should do pretty well, unless they're really terrible.
robyrob 11-04-2013, 01:18 PM They also have 2 midseason comedies set to air after The Voice. Those should do pretty well, unless they're really terrible.
is one of those the John Mulaney sitcom, or has that been shelved indefinitely?
Cyrax 11-04-2013, 02:12 PM They also have 2 midseason comedies set to air after The Voice. Those should do pretty well, unless they're really terrible.
I'd disregard midseason plans like that, last season NBC planned to air Do No Harm on Sundays and ABC planned to have 4 comedies on Tuesdays. Sean Saves the World won't have more than 13 episodes so they might use one of those comedies there instead of the unscheduled Undateable.
EmoJoe 11-04-2013, 03:18 PM is one of those the John Mulaney sitcom, or has that been shelved indefinitely?
NBC passed on it, but it was picked up on Fox for a 6-episode order. Not sure if it's premiering this spring or next fall though.

I'm 99% sure there will be two comedies airing after The Voice in the spring - which ones might be in question, but my gut says they aren't quite dumb enough to waste more new shows on the DOA Thursday line-up.

I wouldn't say Parks and Rec does "a lot better" that Sean Saves the World and The Michael J. Fox Show given all the ratings are low 1.0's.
If either of those new comedies hit at midseason, NBC will likely cancel both Community and Parks and Rec.

The Voice can still stay at 9 pm even. Plus they have 3 unscheduled dramas and they can't all go to Sundays. Even if one of them goes to replace The Blacklist in a Revolution/Deception hiatus way, I still wouldn't bet on NBC trying comedies at the 9 pm hour on Tuesdays when ABC and FOX is already airing comedies there.
mr awesome 11-04-2013, 06:34 PM NBC loves Amy Poehler like they did/do Tina Fey, P&R is not going anywhere. They will find room for it, even if it is for schedule spackle.
Plus NBC seems to be planning to go back to their old comedy brand next season. This season's 'broad appeal' shows did worse than the low rated critical darling sitcoms that NBC usually is home to.
mtlguy 11-04-2013, 11:44 PM Also, "especially Parks & Rec" is inaccurate. It did a lot better than Sean Saves the World & Michael J. Fox in its most recent airing.
Ok we don 't have the same definition for <a lot better>:
Last show was...3 weeks ago, October 17th
NBC The Michael J. Fox Show 1.2/3 18-49 3.56 Millions
NBC Sean Saves the World 1.1/3 3.36
NBC Parks and Recreation 1.3/4 3.27
It has less viewers than both shows that night, and only .1 18-49 over MJF and .2 over Shawn. I would not call that <a lot better>...

They did it last year with Go On/The New Normal and it worked pretty well, until The Voice went on hiatus and the comedies never recovered. But premiering them post-Voice hiatus would fix that problem. Tuesdays at 9 is really the only decent comedy launching pad NBC has, so they'd be smart to utilize it. New Girl and The Goldbergs (assuming it's still there in the fall) have been struggling to hit 2.0 so I don't think they're exactly steep competition.

For some reason I was thinking it hit a 1.4, but you're right. However, considering Parks has to face the death star that is Big Bang Theory and MJF/Sean have the much lighter Crazy Ones/Two and a Half Men combo, I think Parks' performance is stronger enough that it would be considered a better candidate for renewal than either of the 9:00 shows.
irehtman 11-05-2013, 09:52 AM Parks and Recreation and Community, both need to end their series right away.
Sean Saves The World is about to become a next victim immediately.
Yeah, I just don't understand why NBC comedies are getting bad these days?
The better classics as The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Different World, Seinfeld, Cheers, Night Court, Saved By The Bell, The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air, Blossom and Hang Time (#1 favorite).
I know CW does not accept anymore comedies due to too many bloodied brawl fights between fans, critics and viewers in it.
EmoJoe 11-07-2013, 02:08 PM If either of those new comedies hit at midseason, NBC will likely cancel both Community and Parks and Rec.
If they only get decent ratings because they're slotted after The Voice then I really doubt it, considering what happened to Go On and The New Normal after they lost their Voice lead-in. I would be surprised if at least one of them isn't back next year, even if it's just for a short final season.
Here's the thing: NBC has yet to prove they can do better than Community or Parks & Rec with their comedies, hence why they're still around. Parks may not do a *lot* better but it does a little better (in a much worse timeslot) and has the advantage that every episode made will at least make some profit for NBC-Universal considering it's been sold to syndication.
icecream 11-13-2013, 03:05 PM NBC is preempting The Blacklist on Monday the 18th. Why? So they can add a clip show of The Voice. James28 11-14-2013, 08:55 PM About "Last Call with Carson Daly": Since Carson Daly is about to leave"Last Call" for "The Today Show", the program will have to find a new host by the end of the season. If a new host can't be found, then "Last Call" may have to be cancelled, and its time period given back to NBC's affiliates and O&Os. Another option is possibly having Mr. Daly continue "Last Call" in a new format. If "Last Call" does continue, Daly will continue to executive produce the program.

Another option is possibly having Mr. Daly continue "Last Call" in a new format. If "Last Call" does continue, Daly will continue to executive produce the program.
Isn't he just a correspondent for The Today Show? If I'm not mistaken, he's been doing it for a couple months.
I haven't heard anything about him leaving Last Call.

Yep, several sites confirmed it months ago, including Deadline, TV Line, etc..
Cyrax 11-23-2013, 04:00 AM Both Sean Saves the World & The Michael J. Fox Show pulled a 0.9 this week yet NBC ordered 18 and 22 episodes of them, it must be rock bottom for the network. But they still haven't announced midseason plans and the comedies are not airing in 2013 anymore, they should burn them off on Fridays 8 pm or Sundays after football ends.
EmoJoe 11-23-2013, 04:41 AM They have announced their midseason plans - Sean and MJF are staying in tact, Community is moving back to 8:00, and Parks & Rec is shifting to 8:30. Then after the Winter Olympics they're premiering 2 new comedies (About a Boy and Growing Up Fisher) on Tuesdays at 9:00 after The Voice.
They really don't have much of a choice but to keep them around - the only other comedy they have on the bench is Undateable, and I don't really think that would do any better than either of them. But these ratings are embarrasing, and they need to think long and hard about their comedy development next year. They already have a series order for a new Tina Fey comedy, so they need to find out how to make that work for them.
The funny thing is they're doing OK on the drama front, with The Blacklist emerging as a hit and Grimm, Chicago Fire, and SVU all remaining steady. But the state of their comedy is certainly worse than ever. Greenblatt just has no idea how to make a good comedy show.
Cyrax 11-23-2013, 05:44 AM ^I thought they'd make a press release like ABC and FOX did this week about the midseason schedule. So that is all, it stays like that, and the 2 dramas go to Sundays? Usually they change midseason plans that are announced very early (like last year they planned to air Do No Harm on Sundays but it was moved to Thursdays 10 pm)? And the Thursday comedies will run till May after the Olympics?
EmoJoe 11-23-2013, 01:47 PM I'm assuming their midseason schedule is the same as it was at Upfronts if they haven't announced any other changes, but maybe they're just late and will announce more changes soon. And yeah, that's the plan with the comedies as of now.
James28 11-24-2013, 11:28 PM Update on Last Call with Carson Daly: New episodes of Last Call began airing at the end of October with "wraparounds" of host Mr. Daly opening and closing each episode. Interviews are being handled by producers. Apparently NBC likes this new format, so Last Call will stay active on the schedule, at least for the remainder of the 2013-14 season.
James28 12-03-2013, 06:23 PM After a strong finish in the ratings for its fall run, NBC has renewed their smash hit freshman The Blacklist for a second season of 22 episodes for the 2014-15 season. Network wasted zero time in that opportunity.

EmoJoe 12-06-2013, 12:50 AM All those NBC comedies are deteriorating, Parks And Recreation and Community need to end their series by May 2014, unfortunately.
Why?
James28 12-06-2013, 01:00 AM It is true that "a network can't renew everything", but "a network can't cancel everything" either. If Community gets renewed, its sixth season may probably be its last.
EmoJoe 12-06-2013, 04:37 AM We should probably wait until Community actually premieres before we make any renewal or cancellation predictions.

You were right, those midseason plans remained the same and they revealed the premiere dates.
http://www.deadline.com/2014/01/nbc-midseason-schedule-about-a-boy-believe/
NBC has announced premiere dates for five of its upcoming midseason series — comedies “About a Boy” and “Growing Up Fisher,” dramas “Believe” and “Crisis,” and alternative program “American Dream Builders.”
Created for television by Jason Katims (“Friday Night Lights,” “Parenthood”), “About a Boy” — based on the best-selling Nick Hornby novel — will premiere in its regular time period Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. ET/PT leading out of “The Voice.” A few days earlier, however, the first episode of the show will preview in primetime during the Olympics on Friday, Feb. 21 (10:30 p.m.) immediately following NBC’s coverage of the Winter Games from Sochi, Russia that night.
“Growing Up Fisher,” from creator DJ Nash and starring J.K. Simmons and Jenna Elfman, will premiere in its regular time period Tuesday, Feb. 25 at 9:30 p.m. with “About a Boy” as its lead-in. “Growing Up Fisher” will also have its first episode premiere during the Olympics on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 10:30 p.m., following coverage of the Closing Ceremonies.
“Believe,” from executive producers J.J. Abrams (“Revolution”) and Alfonso Cuarón (“Gravity”), who also directed the pilot, will have a special preview Monday, March 10 at 10 p.m. following “The Voice” and will premiere in its regular time period Sunday, March 16 at 9 p.m. “Believe” is a suspense drama that follows a unique 10-year-old girl with incredible powers who must be protected from falling into the wrong hands.
“Crisis,” starring Gillian Anderson and Dermot Mulroney, will premiere Sunday, March 16 at 10 p.m. The series examines to what extremes elite and influential Washington, D.C., parents will go to when their children are put in jeopardy by a man who is out for revenge.
The Nate Berkus-hosted reality competition series “American Dream Builders” will premiere Sunday, March 23 at 8 p.m. The hourlong series pits 12 of the country’s most accomplished designers and builders against each other as they tackle massive home renovation projects, featuring unique architectural styles, resulting in some jaw-dropping transformations.
icecream 01-19-2014, 06:02 PM Per Bob Greenblatt: Parks and Recreation has been renewed for season 7 and Community has a strong chance of renewal. He's not happy with The Michael J. Fox Show.
James28 01-19-2014, 09:15 PM According to Deadline (http://www.deadline.com/2014/01/parks-recreation-renewed-seventh-season/):
NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke was quick to jump in and note that a renewal for Parks & Recreation does not impact a pickup decision on Community, which NBC brass also like but will evaluate their comedy plans for next season before making a decision.
So, does this mean Community will actually be cancelled after its Season 5? 'Cause I was leading toward an abbreviated sixth (and final) season.
James28 01-22-2014, 02:27 AM Hate to double-post, but I had this thought: If NBC got the NFL Thursday Night Package next season, will they have to find a new night for a 2-hour comedy block next season? Or a one-hour comedy block on two nights each? If so, which night should it be?
icecream 01-22-2014, 02:58 AM NBC is the network that would benefit most if it got the Thursday games. They would go from having abysmal Thursday ratings to easily winning every week in the fall with 2 football games and 3 hours of The Voice. The comedies shouldn't be a priority, especially on Thursdays. Cutting back to 1 hour of comedies might be best as their dramas do better.
EmoJoe 01-22-2014, 10:53 PM According to Deadline (http://www.deadline.com/2014/01/parks-recreation-renewed-seventh-season/):
So, does this mean Community will actually be cancelled after its Season 5? 'Cause I was leading toward an abbreviated sixth (and final) season.
Greenblatt says it has a "strong possibility" of being renewed. My guess is it's coming back unless it starts to really tank.

I don't agree - NBC already has Sunday football, throwing 2 nights away to football would look desperate and would leave them with only ~8 hours of scripted programming. ABC would probably benefit the most - they could use more eyeballs watching their network and promoting their shows, and they could move Grey's and Scandal to nights where they could potentially help out the stragglers.
icecream 01-23-2014, 12:56 AM Would NBC rather have their current Thursday lineup that is all under a 1.5 or a 2nd football game that would easily win them every week? seems like a no-brainer to me...
EmoJoe 01-23-2014, 01:03 AM And what are they going to do when football ends in January? It's a short-term fix but it wouldn't provide any long-term support.
NBC has a night of football, let another network take a swing.
HauntedThunderman94 01-28-2014, 10:57 PM Sean Saves the World is CANCELLED
http://www.deadline.com/2014/01/nbcs-sean-saves-the-world-shuts-down-production/
James28 01-29-2014, 12:29 AM Now that Sean Saves the World has been fired, what do you think will fill its timeslot on Thursday after the Sochi Winter Olympics?
EmoJoe 01-29-2014, 05:39 AM NBC will probably just fill in the 9 PM hour with filler - SNL specials, ect. Putting anything new there would just be a waste. Maybe they'll try Community/Parks in that hour.
cherryade 01-29-2014, 08:47 AM So, does this mean Community will actually be cancelled after its Season 5? 'Cause I was leading toward an abbreviated sixth (and final) season.
Greenblatt said that both Parks and Community were a "strong possibility" to be renewed, and then pretty much announced Parks' renewal at the Q&A.
I wouldn't take it as bad news for Community. I imagine Salke was just worried about being misinterpreted by the press who are rather defensive about Community because she has got into trouble with the press before.
And what are they going to do when football ends in January? It's a short-term fix but it wouldn't provide any long-term support.
NBC has a night of football, let another network take a swing.
I agree with you that it doesn't solve NBC's problems, but the Thursday Night Football deal is only for 6-8 games. It would just push launching their Thursday schedule to late October.
Now that Sean Saves the World has been fired, what do you think will fill its timeslot on Thursday after the Sochi Winter Olympics?
They have no good options. It's a choice between burning off Michael J. Fox and airing filler, doing a major, risky, reshuffle of their schedule or just slotting Undateable in Sean's old slot.
Personally, I'd go for airing hour-long filler. They have unaired episodes of Hollywood Game Night and they can follow them up with Dateline.
Supposedly Undateable and medical drama The Night Shift are both a mess, plus it's a rather brutal slot to premiere a new show in.
EmoJoe 01-29-2014, 02:22 PM It's also that, unlike Parks, NBC doesn't produce Community (Sony does) so they can't actually say anything about a renewal without negotiating with them first.
icecream 01-29-2014, 10:20 PM The Emmys will air on a Monday this year for the first time since 1976.
James28 01-30-2014, 07:05 AM So I would think, at the end of the season, the only comedies surviving to next season at NBC are Parks and Recreation and Community, again> So when P&R and Community end their original runs, NBC will never have a successful or long-running comedy series again. Any comedy series that NBC tries to launch will end up getting low ratings and cancelled after one season.
Also, About a Boy and Growing Up Fisher: Will they get sufficient ratings or end up flopping as well? I probably don't think Undateable will get a renewal, either.

James28 02-13-2014, 05:23 AM I already know that NBC's primetime programming has to take a two-week break during the Olympics, but, since I heard that NBC will provide some coverage of the 2014 Paralympic Games along with NBCSN from 7 to 16 March, will NBC's primetime programming be pre-empted for any Paralympics coverage?
mr awesome 02-13-2014, 05:34 PM Maybe weekend afternoons, but not in primetime. NBC owns so many cable channels, they should find room for coverage there.
icecream 02-24-2014, 12:46 AM Growing Up Fisher was pretty good, minus the Jenna Elfman character. GUF was much better than About a Boy, should have gotten the post-Voice spot instead.
icecream 02-25-2014, 10:37 PM Why is Growing Up Fisher repeating the pilot episode tonight? My listings showed it was new and should have been episode 2.
king of comedy 02-26-2014, 07:15 AM Maybe not everybody saw the pilot and NBC want to repeat it show those what they have missed.
WolfPunch Comedy 02-27-2014, 08:36 PM A group of people got together to shoot a pilot presentation for a 50's sitcom.
Would you watch it? Here it is.
icecream 03-10-2014, 11:04 PM Believe is ok. It's good enough to keep watching for now but Resurrection is definitely better.
icecream 03-19-2014, 10:19 PM NBC has renewed Parks and Recreation, Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Grimm, and The Celebrity Apprentice (I thought that show was dead.) This joins the previously announced Blacklist and Voice renewals. Noticeably absent from the list is Law and Order: SVU.
irehtman 03-20-2014, 07:42 AM What about Community?
irehtman 03-29-2014, 01:12 PM I know TNBC was not considered a public Saturday Morning Block back then, but the only show that recieved more public, IMO, is Hang Time, no offense.
I used to be a Saved By The Bell fan, but now, I retired from watching that show and I am still now considered a Hang Time fan continuously.
I have no doubt about have Hang Time on DVD. But I can predict that that show will be in a complete DVD Box Set of all 104 episodes in all six seasons, including closed captions.
I don't care about too many cast changes in that show, but just make that these types of too many cast changes in Hang Time is even-numbered and two female characters remain constant in all episode and in all seasons.
mets82 03-29-2014, 02:02 PM So Growing up Fisher is ok? I may check it out. Let me ask, has NBC finally gotten out of 4th place? Seem like they have some decent shows. Have NBC improved in the last year or two?
icecream 03-29-2014, 02:45 PM So Growing up Fisher is ok? I may check it out.I like Growing Up Fisher, have watched every episode and hope it's renewed. I'm sorry, but this makes no sense. The difference between Community and Parks and Recreation is that Sony owns Community and NBC Universal owns Parks and Recreation. NBC has no reason to keep Community on the air. If Sony wants more episodes for syndication, they are going to have to cut costs extremely low, as the ratings do not warrant another season.

Why should I stay out of this conversation? It's a forum for all to express their opinions about television series.
NBC has no financial reason to continue the Community. They do not own it, Sony does. Just because its three episodes short of 100 episodes doesn't mean it has to be renewed. The series is already in syndication and it isn't doing well. There is pretty much no reason for it to continue, except to keep a few fans happy. Just let the show end now before ratings fall even further.
Cyrax 04-06-2014, 03:32 PM Yeah, Community has just hit 0.9, there is absolutely no reason to renew it for a 6th season, how low would it go this time next year? And these days 88 episodes are enough for syndication so the 100-episode rule does not stand either.

So "Community" was higher rated than "Parks & Recreation"? I guess P&R gets to come back because it's owned by NBC Universal. The thing that ticks me off is that I felt P&R should have ended this season and after the twist ending in the season finale, I'm not looking forward to season 7. Whereas "Community" I felt had one more season (and a movie) to go.
I'm both happy that we got 5 seasons and 97 episodes and upset that the show didn't reach its six seasons and a movie goal. It was so close!

Growing Up Fisher is their 1st comedy I've seen double digit episodes of in forever. It had better retention from About a Boy than ABB did from The Voice (usually only two or three tenths off) and deserved nurturing. And Believe had terrible ratings but so does Hannibal and it gets 9 lives. plus pulling the episode that would have aired on my birthday, grrr. I hope all of the Believe and GUF runs get to air.
Let's boycott NBC for a while!
icecream 05-10-2014, 04:16 PM NBC has bitten Dracula, it is cancelled. Parenthood remains the last broadcast show whose fate has not been decided yet.
James28 05-11-2014, 06:43 AM From the Deadline article about the Hannibal season 3 renewal:
"The NBC TV series Hannibal is done under a different model, which allows the producers to make it for a $750,000 license fee from NBC, a fraction of what a high-end drama like that goes for. And with a subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) deal for Hannibal kicking in that NBC shares in, the license fee may become even lower in season 3."
Cyrax 05-11-2014, 07:34 AM Is the NBC 2014-2015 schedule expected at 5 pm ET this year as well?

tlc38tlc38 05-11-2014, 09:01 AM Let's boycott NBC for a while!
I'm willing to boycott NBC primetime (because I don't watch it anyway) but I absolutely will not give up Days of Our Lives. It's the only thing I watch on NBC.
irehtman 05-11-2014, 08:31 PM So there is another reason why they discontinued both community and growing up fisher in the wrong time:
No more Thursday Night NBC comedy blocks.
icecream 05-19-2014, 05:10 PM NBC should have kept Believe and Crisis last night, the Saturday Night Lice special did worse! :D
And yes, the spelling is intentional, I think SNL is highly overrated.

Well, that special has been aired tons of times, is aired regularly on cable, and readily available on DVD. It did pretty well the first time it aired back in 2010
king of comedy 05-20-2014, 06:19 AM SNL has been overrated and dead for 3 decades.
irehtman 05-22-2014, 03:52 PM For the entire next season, I will only stick to watch the NFL games only and boycott watching all comedies in this network at the same time, no offense.
icecream 05-28-2014, 12:52 AM I'm not happy with NBC. I was looking forward to the 2 episode finale of Growing Up Fisher tomorrow night and it's been pulled again! They had better air the last 2 episodes.
icecream 07-12-2014, 09:09 PM Welcome to Sweden was a total bust, remind me never to watch anything produced by or starring a Poehler. Working the Engels has potential, I like the lawyer daughter and the alcoholic mother. I really don't like the portrayal of the "Christian" though, we need some positive Christian characters for a change.
