CBS’ "The Young and the Restless" To Celebrate Jeanne Cooper with Tribute Show
by THE DEADLINE TEAM
Friday May 10, 2013

CBS said today that "Y&R" will air a tribute to the top-rated soap‘s longtime star Jeanne Cooper, who died this week at 84.

Family, friends and castmates will gather on the "Y&R" set to film a celebration of the Emmy-winning actress who played Katherine Chancellor for nearly four decades.

The hour will feature people on-set and personal memories of Cooper — the mother of actor Corbin Bernsen — along with "Y&R" clips and interviews from the series’ recent 40th anniversary special.

The tribute airs May 28 at 12:30 PM ET/11 AM PT.

Jeanne certainly deserves a beautiful tribute for her longtime love and devotion to the show, the cast and the fans of Y&R. She was the show's best Goodwill Ambassador and was famous for taking young new actors under her wing and giving them lessons on not just acting, but on life. She was always the consummate professional and her passing leaves a large void in the show that could never be filled by another actor/character. I will definitely watch the special memorial episode to one of the medium's all-time greats... :(

That's great news that they are dedicating an entire show to Jeanne's memory and that of her character, Katherine. Props to Y&R.

Did anyone else catch the memorial episode? It was very moving, with most of the cast gathering together to share their special memories of what it was like to work with the incomparable Jeanne Cooper...

You know I watched some of it. It was too sad for me. I knew when I saw a preview of the show and Chloe started to cry, I knew it was too sad for me. But you know what God bless Jeanne Cooper. What a fantastic actress.

It was a great tribute. I just watched it while sobbing throughout the entire thing. I can't even begin to imagine the show without her on it. It's going to be like a new show altogether.

I forgot all about it, hopefully it's on youtube or Hulu.

At the end when they replayed Jeanne's last scene of her walking up the stairs and saying "goodnight" and they recreated Jess Walton looking up the stairs and saying "Goodbye, Jeanne"...that was so heartbreaking.

Thanks for sharing. I was able to see part of it on youtube along with a classic episode from 1975 with original commercials, what a treat.

I know, that was incredibly moving. As much as the characters of Catherine and Jill hated each other through most of their years together, it was obvious how much the actors genuinely cared for each other.

Has anyone heard what the show is going to do re: Katherine? I assume they'll have Katherine pass on as well...NO ONE would accept a recast.

I think there will be a funeral episode airing at some point in July. While Michael Learned did temporarily fill in for Jeanne in the Fall of 2011, that would definitely not go over well with fans on a long-term basis.

Very fitting tribute and I cried at the end with Jess :(

She was so much a part of this show for almost 40 years it just doesn't seem right she is gone. She is one of those people you just expect to live and perform forever. She will be missed greatly!!
