TNT’s "Southland" Cancelled after Five Seasons

It is the end of the road for "Southland" after five seasons, one on NBC and four on TNT. The critically praised cop show has been a source of pride for TNT brass who rescued the series after NBC dropped it before Season 2.

“TNT has made the difficult decision not to renew Southland for another season,” TNT said in a statement. “We are enormously proud of Southland, which stands as one of the best police dramas ever made.”

"Southland" recently drew 1.6 million viewers. Three of its four main actors, Ben McKenzie, Regina King and Shawn Hatosy, all booked pilots, with McKenzie playing the male lead in a drama produced by "Southland" studio and TNT sibling WBTV.

There had been talk about about a movie wrapping the story but that could not be made economically feasible.

"Southland‘s" fifth season finale now serves as a fitting series finale with the poignant title Reckoning.

It came from two of the series’ three executive producers, written by Jonathan Lisco and directed by Chris Chulack, who also helmed the pilot.

TNT cancelled its low-key great cop show, but where are the think pieces?

....it lasted a lot longer than it would have, had TNT (and Warner Bros.) not "rescued" it from NBC's "sinkhole of bottomless programming decisions". And for that, I'm grateful.

Wow, this is awful news for this Southland fan. This show was so unique, not some cookie-cutter show where everything is wrapped up neatly in one hour. The characters were well developed. This show had a couple of years left in it. My husband's not liking this either.
