I was trying to think of a new type of TV list and I came up w/ this. I know of a few off-hand, but won't mention them yet to give others a chance.


Sherri Shepherd played 'Judge Lesser' on "Hot in Cleveland" and then appeared on spin-off "The Soul Man" as 'Nikki'.

Jeffrey Tambor had a series regular role on "The Ropers".

He then guested on "Three's Company" a few times (in different roles).

This may be kinda reverse, but Scott Baio first appeared as Anthony DeLuca on "Blansky's Beauties", which is a spinoff of "Happy Days" and then, after the show ended, he went on to appear in a different role, Chachi Arcola, on "Happy Days".

I tried this over a decade ago, but it didn't take off. I figured to try it again...


Anne Haney appeared on "The Golden Girls" as a hospital patient in the bed next to Dorothy.

She appeared on "The Golden Palace" as an elderly lady w/ dementia.

Adam Goldberg did 3 episodes of Friends as Eddie, then later 9 episodes of Joey as Jimmy.

Allan Melvin appeared in eight Andy Griffith episodes, all different characters, before recurring as Charley Hacker on Gomer Pyle.

Peri Gilpin and John Mahoney had guest shots on Cheers before becoming regulars on Frasier.

John Amos was Henry on Maude and then James on Good Times

Inga Swenson and Caroline McWilliams both did arcs on Soap and then were different character regulars on Benson.

Marla Gibbs had guest roles as different characters on "Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19".

If I have this all correct, Derrel Maury did some characters on Happy Days, became a regular as someone else on Joanie Loves Chachi, then eventually did the Joanie Loves Chachi character on Happy Days.

Rue McClanahan guest starred as a swinger on All in the Family that Edith invited over after reading an add for " meeting new friends" in the back page of a magazine . Not realizing her and her Husband were swimgers .

Than she went on the play Vivian on Maude.

More T.A.G.S:

William Christopher guest starred on 2 episodes of T.A.G.S. He later had a recurring role as Pvt Lester Hummel on Gomer Pyle: USMC.

Elizabeth MacRae appeared on 1 episode of T A.G.S. She later recurred as Lou Ann Poovie on Gomer Pyle: USMC.

Parley Baer had a recurring role as Mayor Roy Stoner on T.A.G.S. He also appeared on 2 episodes of Gomer Pyle: USMC.

Frances Bavier appeared in the episode of The Danny Thomas Show that served as the pilot for The Andy Griffith Show, but not as Aunt Bee. Instead, she played a grieving widow who needed Andy’s help.

Liz Torres played that Hispanic woman that stayed with the Bunkers in Season 7 of All in the Family. She later appeared as coworker of Florence’s on The Jeffersons for its back door pilot of the failed spin off Checking In which she also appeared in.

Maggie Peterson played Charlene Darling on The Andy Griffith Show, and was a guest on Mayberry RFD, as a diner waitress, Edna, on the season 3 Howard the Dream Spinner episode.

Camden Toy had various roles on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". Most notably, he was one of the six gentlemen demons.

He also played a demon on spin-off "Angel".

Teller, of magician duo Penn & Teller, appeared on "The Big Bang Theory" as the father of Amy Farrah Fowler.

He appeared alongside Penn Jillette on "Young Sheldon" as part of a dermatology duo.



Also, Lance Barber appeared as George Cooper Sr. on both "The Big Bang Theory" and "Young Sheldon".

He also appeared on an episode of "TBBT" as Jimmy Speckerman, Leonard's high school bully.

Percy Rodrigues played a friend of Donna's that became a rival for Fred on an episode of Sanford & Son. A few years later he played the brother of Fred's new girlfriend Evelyn on Sanford.

Daniel Jacobs, son of creator Michael Jacobs, appeared as Joshua Matthews on the series finale of "Boy Meets World".

He appeared in an uncredited role on "Girl Meets World" as a customer at Topanga's.

Also to note that he appeared in an uncredited role as a 'kid' on a Season 7 episode of BMW before appearing as Joshua.

Sarah Chalke played the "new Becky" on "Roseanne" and appeared as a new character, Andrea, for "Roseanne's" 2018 revival season.

She then appeared as Andrea on a Season 1 ep of "The Conners".

It hasn't aired yet, but Tracy Morgan is starring in an offshoot of "The Neighborhood", "Crutch", for Paramount+.

He will star as Francois “Frank” Crutchfield, a Harlem widower whose empty-nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home.

He previously guested on a 2022 episode of "The Neighborhood" as Curtis Butler, the brother of Cedric the Entertainer's Calvin Butler.

Billy Macy was a policeman on All In The Family before he hooked up with Maude

Sid Melton had a starring role in the later seasons of the Danny Thomas Show (from which The Andy Griffith Show was spun off with a back door pilot) and had two season 6 appearances on TAGS in a different role, as a movie studio executive during the Taylors' visit to Hollywood.

This one is a real stretch, since these two shows are tied together only by this pilot, when Danny came through Mayberry and was caught in Andy's speed trap.

Character actor Jesse White had a recurring role on The Danny Thomas Show (early years), had a one shot on The Andy Griffith Show, plus he had two appearances (as different characters) on Gomer Pyle.

Now Green Acres isn't a spin-off from Petticoat Junction--they are kind of concurrent shows in the same "parts unknown" geographic area.

But Sid Melton appeared in one episode of PJ in one role, and in Green Acres in a different, recurring role (30 episodes as Alf Monroe) AND one episode in a one-shot different role (didn't know some of these particulars; had to get them from IMDb)

So, since no spin-offs are involved, let's just say this is useful (or useless) info.

Joanna Gleason appeared as Judge Carmella Romano on The Good Wife and The Good Fight.

She will be playing a different role on Elsbeth as Maura Davidoff.

Robert Englund played Victor Creel on Stranger Things.

He will be voicing a new character named Cosmo on the animated spin-off Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.

John Mahoney. He guest starred in one episode of Cheers (I think he played an author) before going on to star in the Cheers' spinoff Frasier as retired policeman Martin Crane.

Kirk Cameron appeared as 'Cousin Steve' in a Season 1 episode of "Full House".

He then appeared as himself on "Fuller House" going out on a date with Kimmy Gibbler.

i was thinking more of the line of Marcia Rodd playing Carol in pilot of Maude and Adrienne Barbeau played the part in the series. But I don't think that this thread poster meant that.
