The Film Director Bryan Forbes died today at his home in Virginia Water near London after a long illness with his family at the bedside. He was 86. He will be most remembered for directing the 1975 film The Stepford Wives adapted from the book by Ira Levin, where Connecticut housewives are brainwashed through pills into being perfect creations for their husbands' pleasure. He directed many other films including Whistle Down the Wind with child star Hayley Mills and The Railway Children. He picked up a host of awards and mixed in Royal circles with his wife,actress Nanette Newman,but always kept his feet firmly on the ground,an attitude which stemmed from his East End London roots.http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2013/may/09/bryan-forbes-obituary
