I was thinking about this a lot this morning. Can anyone think of a solo artist who has used a different lead singer besides the actual solo artist on any of their records? The best example (and the only one I could think of off the top of my head) is Ted Nugent. Nugent and his rhythm guitarist Derek St. Holmes both sang lead vocals on the first couple of studio albums. Can anyone think of any others?

I believe Robin Trower had a lead singer when he went solo.

Elvin Bishop - Mickey Thomas of Jefferson Starship did the vocals on "Fooled Around and Fell in Love"

Mike Oldfield has used several vocalists on his records including Barry Palmer, Maggie Reilly, Bonnie Tyler, Anita Hegerland and more

I believe Robin Trower had a lead singer when he went solo.

You're right: it was bassist James Dewar.

Yngwie Malmsteen

Robin Trower has had several; James Dewar died about eleven years ago.

Just thought of another one. Barry Goudreau recorded a solo album and used two different lead singers (Brad Delp and Fran Cosmo).

does Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow count? - after he left Deep Purple and formed his own band all of the other members were basically just employees and Ritchie would fire everyone in the band on a regular basis; they went through several singers: Ronnie James Dio, Graham Bonnet, Joe Lynn Turner, and Doogie White

Just thought of two more. Manfred Mann had used different lead singers on his solo albums and on his Earth Band's albums. On the first couple of Alice Cooper albums, the rhythm guitar player sang lead on a couple of songs.

Does Alan Parsons Project count? Alan Parsons did some background vocals and sang lead on one song but other songs were sung by group co-creator Eric Woolfson and other singers.
