I think Rollo had respect for an elder, particularly the father of his best friend. It made Rollo a much cooler character that he could just shake his head at Fred's insults. Rollo mouthing off to Fred would only validate Fred's opinion of him. Rollo showed respect and decorum.

Yeah plus rollo felt sorry for fred because he was already taking harsh insults from other people who did not respect him.
