Married at 13 and had 4 kids by the time she was 21? I don't know why she married so early.

That's just crazy! Girls are still going through puberty at 13. Some don't even have their periods yet.

No I didn't know that about Marla. Good lord she had children fast. She didn't have much of teenagers life of fun times of proms, high school and such.

Maybe things were different in the 1940's plus I think it also depends on the state that she was living in at the time.

I can't possibly imagine someone issuing a marriage license to a 13-year-old. But maybe times were different back then. Maybe it wasn't an "official" union.

Peculiar if you ask me.

She went to high school with Sam Cooke, probably things were different in Illinois, or wherever she was from at that time period.
