View Full Version : Was Mike Brady a workaholic
Neutronman67 05-03-2013, 04:03 PM Mike Brady seemed to only care about his work and projects he would write down on paper all the time then spend quality time with his family, even when on vacation with his family he was thinking about getting his project done on time so he wouden't be fired from his job lol, do you think mike was a workaholic ???
Marvo301 05-04-2013, 01:58 PM Yes he was! But he had a good reason. He had a large household to support (including a maid!) and he was the only one in the family who had a job!
yayaya 05-04-2013, 03:50 PM Mike had to work. He wasn't on vacation. Those trips were job-related. Mike had to go out of town for his job, but he invited his family to go along with him so they could have a vacation. When Mike had to travel to Hawaii, that wasn't a family vacation like some people take. That was Mike having to go to Hawaii for his job. He decided on his own to take his family so they could enjoy Hawaii. My spouse has to travel out of town for work. Sometimes I can go, but that is money that we have to shell out, the company doesn't pay for it. And sometimes my spouse can't spend the day with me because of having to do work. That is how it was for Mike Brady. His family knew this.
Neutronman67 05-04-2013, 05:09 PM Yeah the man had to work for them to stay in that nice house

Tap Dancer 06-03-2013, 04:02 PM I don't think he was a workaholic. If he seemed to work a lot it's because he had to support 9 people on one salary. It seems to me that he spent a lot of time with his family. I'm actually surprised he didn't work more...or even have a second job.
Tweety 08-18-2013, 11:07 PM I wouldn't consider Mike to be a workaholic.
The Hawaii trip was work-related. as was the trip to Cincinnati (Kings Island). The Grand Canyon trip was a true family vacation.
He was as involved in the lives of the kids as most fathers from that era. And he always had time to talk to them even when he "worked" at home. The kids didn't always go to him when they got into a fix, but they could have.
He went out of his way to help Marcia try to talk to Davy Jones, even though she got herself into that situation. And he even tried to find a friend of a friend of a friend who knows Joe Namath, rather than letting Bobby face his friends after lying to them
It always cracks me up to hear Carol ask Mike, "we don't even know Joe Namath, do we Mike?" lol, she has to ask Mike if they know Joe Namath, she's not sure.
Neutronman67 09-25-2013, 08:36 AM Their is one thing i dont understand if Alice was the house keeper maid for the Brady family then why was Carol a stay at home mom,Mike should have let her get a job heck even a part-time job she never seemed to leave the house lol.
Mark Mallard 04-17-2014, 10:22 PM To answer the question at hand, no, not at all! Mike is at home way more often than he is at work- at least that's what the show presents to us. In fact, just the other day I was watching the Season 2 episode "Lights Out", and there was a neat little side scene where Mike comes home from work early in the afternoon and tells Alice that he couldn't stay awake at the office because he'd been "up half the night with Cindy". I take this as a good example of how Mike knew when to draw the line between work and family, or work and health, in this case! Also, in the "Mike's Horror-scope" episode, the main plot of the episode focuses on Mike needing to cut out Bibi Gallini from his work life so that he CAN spend more time with Carol and the kids. AND....don't forget the two massive vacations the Bradys took. No workaholic would ever take the time to venture out to the Grand Canyon or Hawaii for a week's time off!
Hot Lips 05-05-2014, 10:16 AM I think he was. When not at work there were several times where he was working on the plans in his den.

Well, he was an engineer afterall. Have you ever seen how detailed blueprints are?! And that was before computers were used for everything so he had to do that crap by hand - AND he had deadlines! But, I must be watching a different show because he still spent alot more time with his family - unlike the "workaholic." When they went to Hawaii, yes, he had to work being it was a business trip, but he still managed to spend time with the family during that tour they took the first day and taking time to watch Greg on the surf board and then go to that show on the beach after they rescued the boys from Professor what's his name.
Mike even manages to take time out to go to the schools to see the principles and teachers when he could make Carol deal with all of that. I just saw the Father of the year episode where Marcia asks him for help with her math and he went to the meeting late just to help her! Oh yes, a real workaholic! NOT!
comedyfreak 06-09-2014, 04:59 AM I don't think he was a workaholic, he seemed to spend equal time at work and home unless he had a deadline on a project.
Yong Fang 06-09-2014, 09:20 AM Mike Brady was employed as an architect, which to me is a rare job for a TV father to have. Did he work for a company? Seemed to do a lot of his work at home. Didn't he design that 1970's house they lived in?
He had a below first floor (hate to call it a basement), but that was his work area and man cave and he did not really like anyone down there when he was not there and more less just tolerated the boys down there. That was his spot.
