that would support 4 people? And how did the kids survive when she was off the show? She could get social security for Michael because he wasn't 18. Was Thelma 18 when James died? I know JJ wasn't. JJ had a job at least for a while didn't he? I forget what it was.

Season 4 the source of Income was Michael and JJ

Season 5 the main source of income was JJ

Florida didn't have a job until season 6 which was the school bus driver job

In season 4 I would assume that Florida and Michael received SSI, also JJ was working. In season 5 JJ and Thelma were both working. In season 6 Everyone was working.

There was an episode where it was mentioned Thelma worked at the boutique, but I think that was cash money under the table. She wasn't a real employee. I know she mentioned babysitting jobs but I don't think she had a real paycheck coming in.

I just learned a week ago that a spouse cannot collect SSI if a spouse dies. They collect a one-time death benefit which is less than $300 but the only time a spouse can collect SSI when a spouse dies, is if they (the survivor) did not work at all. I never knew this. That's crazy.

Florida worked at a store before James died. That was the job where James was all jealous about the Japanese lunch. She also worked as a maid. I don't know if she collected an actual check or was paid money under the table, but I think she did get paid because she mentioned one time about calling the employment agency when she was seeking work. So, I don't know if Flo even qualified for SSI survivor's claim.

My mom is collecting SSI now since her spouse died in 2005. I think she had to be 60 in order to collect
