Two questions:
1.) What is terrible about the first season and why is is considered 'bad?'
2.) When did TNG was considered to 'improve' or become better?

Are we suppose to join that site and reply to the questions which already appear to have adequate answers?

For the record, I don't think "Star Trek: The Next Generation" was ever terrible at all. I enjoy all the episodes! (Though I don't necessarily agree with all the messages in all of them.)
It was resurrecting a by then popular TV show (note that "Star Trek" wasn't all that popular in the 1960s when it first aired- but the fan conventions and subsequent movies helped make it more popular)- and so it was very tricky to navigate such a course successfully. I think ST:TNG pulled it off pretty well. Sure, some of the first season episodes draw from the Original Series, but that's not such a bad thing. The only really obvious example for this that I can think of is "The Naked Now" and just it because it used the same phenomenom from "The Naked Time", I don't think that's a bad thing. It's a nice tie back to the Original Series which fans generally enjoy.
Overall, I love ST:TNG- it's my favorite Star Trek series by far [probably mainly because I grew up watching this one first as it originally aired], though I do enjoy all the others as well.:)
