After being cast as Superman in Bryan Singer's 2006 "Superman Returns," Brandon Routh fought for a career in the film industry, but ultimately faded away. Now, in a new interview with Empire magazine, "Man of Steel" star Henry Cavill said that he hopes the same thing won't happen to him.

"I certainly haven't got my mind set on failure. That is a bad approach - you want to strive for success," he explained. When asked what his dream role would be (outside of Superman), Cavill said that he would love to play James Bond one day. "What a wonderful challenge to follow up Daniel Craig. He has set the bar so high."

"Superman Returns" grossed only $391 million on a $270 million budget, which was a loss for the studio after factoring in the marketing budget. And despite having a decent 76% fresh rating on RottenTomatoes, fans complained that the film lacked action, something that Zack Snyder promised to not forget about while making "Man of Steel."

I don't think he will, this film looks way better than the last one was by far.

Brandon Routh is doing pretty good for a guy who has "faded away", he's still making movies, and a regular on a current TV series.

Yeah, I was just going to ask whatever happened to him. But for my money, no one else will ever be Superman to me but Christopher Reeve.

Brandon Routh made another comic book movie after "Superman Returns"- and the guy who played Jimmy Olsen in that movie, Sam Huntington, starred in it with him. (That would be "Dylan Dog: Dead of Night"- and no, I'm not endorsing this movie, as I don't personally get into it. But I thought someone else might enjoy it.)
But he's still got a career going. And I'm sure Henry Cavill will as well. I'm one of the few Superman fans who really enjoyed "Superman Returns" (for the most part- I did have issues with some things)- and I'd rather see Brandon Routh back as Superman. I hope "Man of Steel" will be a good presentation of Superman and I will be interested to check it out- but I can't say I've been very enthusiastic because I have some misgivings about the director and actor. (Nothing against them personally; I just don't know if I like all of their work.) We'll see.
And yes- Christopher Reeve will definitely always be my favorite Superman. (Though I've pretty much seen most all of them.):)
