View Full Version : Iola not at Vint's and Naomi's wedding.
Frump 04-29-2013, 04:28 AM I know realistically b/c her character had NOT been created yet, BUT, in a syndicated episode if they had recalled Vint's and Naomi's wedding do you think they woudl have offered some explaination as to why Iola wasn't there?
Or would it be as though she WAS there?
*ROGER* 04-29-2013, 01:50 PM Well, the Boylan family was mentioned before Mama's Family back when Mother Harper was sometimes featured on the Carol Burnett show.

Yeah that's true, Mrs. Boyland was mentioned in the Family Sketches a few times. and in the NBS episodes of Mama's Family, so I guess we are to assume Iola made off-screen visits to Mama.
It's hard to see grumpy Mama of the Family sketches being friends with Iola though.
But at Vint's and Naomi's wedding, there is a woman there in yellow who to me slightly resmebles Iola so I like to pretend that was her lol
*ROGER* 04-30-2013, 03:18 AM Mama was definitely a lot grumpier on The Carol Burnett show.
schmave 05-01-2013, 12:53 PM Revising history slightly to pretend Iola's character did exist in the NBC episodes (she just wasn't seen), her absence at the wedding could be written off as her being upset she didn't land Vint after he and Mitzi divorced.
Whenever "Ms. Boylan" (I always figured it as them saying "Mrs. Boylan" fast and shortening it to "Miz") was mentioned in the original series, I figured it was Iola's mom. We even saw her once in the episode where Mama learns to drive.

I just pretend that during the wedding, she was stuck in the kitchen preparing food so the guests wouldn't be stuck eating Eunice's chili dogs.
Frump 05-30-2013, 01:21 AM Interesting convo.
I know there have been rumors that Iola made appearances in the NBC episodes but they were lost episodes that never made it to syndication.
Just like there are rumors that Eunice, Buzz and Sonya made appearances in the syndicated years.
schmave 05-30-2013, 10:35 AM Never heard any of those rumors :) I guess to get real technical, you could suppose all of them, including Ellen, made visits throughout both lives of the show ... but they didn't make it onscreen. :)

There is an explanation why Bubba wasn't there, though. Wasn't he just released from a juvenile detention center, when he came to live with Mama?

There is a rumor that there are at least 5 or 6 lost episodes floating around.
One of which has Eunice returning in a syndicated episode with some sort of bad news, I've heard further details that she has some sort of illness maybg cancer or something.
Another is said to have Buzz returning and wanting to move back into the house.
One is said that Iola is in an NBC episode and she and Mama try to get into the frozen food business.
Other episodes were said to have :
The Harpers being snowed in after a blizzard hits Raytown
Buzz and Sonya take the car on a road trip and have a wreck and end up in the hospital

Were these ideas for scripts, though, or episodes that were filmed but never aired? They're plausible ideas ... except for, IMO, Eunice returning in a syndicated episode. Given the acrimony between Carol Burnett and Joe Hamilton, the only way that would have been possible is if someone else played Eunice. I'd rather Eunice not be around at all than have someone other than Carol Burnett playing her.
As far as Bubba being in juvenile hall, I don't know if that would explain his not being at Vint and Naomi's wedding. Three years seems a long time to be put away at that sort of facility. If we regard Mama's Family as taking place in real time, Vint and Naomi were married in 1983 and Bubba didn't move in until 1986.

According to some ppl, these ARE actual episodes that were indeed made and ran during the shows original run, but never made it into reruns.
Vickies stated that they completed 135 episodes and there are ONLY 130 episodes, AND many episode guides have 135 episodes.
The only 2 episode titles of the 5 missing episodes that I can remember right now are:
Snow Job ~which I'm guessing is the one where they are snowed in~
and
Raytown without Pity
I have actually talked to someone who had a friend *possible either here or at IMDB* who said his friend was at someone's house back in the early 90s and they had a lot of MF episodes they had recorded off TV back during its original run, and he says he remembers an episode dealing with the Harpers being snowed in and all the businesses in Raytown being closed due to a blizzard and they were all driving eachother crazy.
And supposedly from what I heard was, the episode where Iola was in a NBC epsiode was actually the true last NBC episode.
Like I say I dunno how true all this is, but if it is it would be awesome, I hope they release these if they do exist.

That would be awesome to see those. Maybe the Iola/NBC episode could make it onto the season two DVD??
McGillicuddy 06-06-2013, 05:04 PM I wanna believe this rumor, that there are 5 "long-lost" episodes that didn't make it to syndication, but according to imdb, there were only 130 episodes made. Also, that un-official guide book says 130 episodes.
